I haven't read the book but I gather he's a troubled, moody, brooding, extremely physically attractive man, and he treats the woman in it kinda questionably - but that turns her on. And there's lots of sex, and some of it is mildly kinky.

No doubt this will generate plenty of "See? Women do like men who treat them like sh-t!" reactions. Well no, lots don't - I certainly don't. But it's not unfair to say that a good number of women do - or at least like the fantasy of a troubled, brooding man who's hot and really good in bed... and "taming" him and "teaching him how to love".

And the actor who's playing him is... hubba hubba! :eek:

It's interesting how the minds of men and women are so different. I'd be fairly certain that men would never react in the same way to a book; men typically need more visual stimulation.

I haven't read the book,nor will I be seeing the film. As a woman what I have heard about it I find distasteful, and particularly right now with a certain case in the courts. I wonder if this book and film had been written with the same level of violent role play and aimed at a male market would it ever have been such a success or even indeed seen the light of day. If it had I imagine would have been to the torturous cries of misogyny, abuse and glorification of a perverse desire to subjugate women for kicks. Yet throw in a lavish set, a hunky rich guy to do the whipping and suddenly is a fun girls night out, it's empowering, it's sexy, it's prudish to think otherwise.

Sometimes I find women really disappointing.
