No, Irish women are too prude to publicly display their love for erotic fiction. They'd rather burrow away at home reading the book masked by a girly magazine cover.

Instead, it will be filled with disappointed horny men hoping to see a lot of horny women in the cinema, looking around at each other awkwardly.

TBH just head to a swinger's club if you want easy middle aged rides.

I could have sworn at the last meeting of the all the men everywhere club we decided we weren't going to talk about this film.

Seriously OP they're just going to girl up bondage for us all and ruin it.

How can you not get it if you haven't seen it yet?

Is that why there were constant sightings of women reading the book that summer when it was huge?

Apparently based on some book of a similar name.

Apparently it's actually tame enough nudity wise. Not one full frontal scene in the entire film.

Between this film and valentines it will break the country.

Will some female please explain to me what the excitement is all about? I was talking to my sister today - married and should know better - who performed something over the phone which was similar to the orgasm scene in When Harry met Sally when talking about the movie.

I don't get it. He's a man. Nothing more. What in the name of God do women think the movie will do for them?

    Answers please.

I haven't read the book but I gather he's a troubled, moody, brooding, extremely physically attractive man, and he treats the woman in it kinda questionably - but that turns her on. And there's lots of sex, and some of it is mildly kinky.

No doubt this will generate plenty of "See? Women do like men who treat them like sh-t!" reactions. Well no, lots don't - I certainly don't. But it's not unfair to say that a good number of women do - or at least like the fantasy of a troubled, brooding man who's hot and really good in bed... and "taming" him and "teaching him how to love".

And the actor who's playing him is... hubba hubba!

People are talking about middle-aged women a bit on this thread, but I think it's more of a young woman's fantasy. As women get older then, they see how silly it is to be fixated on the "bad boys".

It's interesting how the minds of men and women are so different. I'd be fairly certain that men would never react in the same way to a book; men typically need more visual stimulation.

Thanks to all the single lads for their inputs too.

You should definitely hang around cinemas showing it, wearing a black suit and possibly have a set of fluffy handcuffs with you.

    The girls will love that.

If you have any money to use as start up funds, I'd advise you to buy a little shopping stand and buy a variety of vibrators, dildos and handcuffs then set up show outside the cinema during it's screening.

I haven't read the book, nor will I be seeing the film. As a woman what I have heard about it I find distasteful, and particularly right now with a certain case in the courts. I wonder if this book and film had been written with the same level of violent role play and aimed at a male market would it ever have been such a success or even indeed seen the light of day. If it had I imagine would have been to the torturous cries of misogyny, abuse and glorification of a perverse desire to subjugate women for kicks. Yet throw in a lavish set, a hunky rich guy to do the whipping and suddenly is a fun girls night out, it's empowering, it's sexy, it's prudish to think otherwise.

Sometimes I find women really disappointing.

The funniest part is if you read any extracts of it you'll think it could've been written by a hormonal 15 year old.

I read the first one out of interest as I have an interest in bsdm myself, there were some parts that rang true but most of it was total rubbish. I've never met a Christian Grey or an Ana but have seen many people with traces of both.

No one knows the content of the movie yet and I've heard the director say some of the more controversial scenes in the book were dropped from the film so who knows what it will be like. I don't know if I will watch it but I'm curious about it and I can see the appeal.

I think some people, wrongly, believe bdsm is about abuse, its not. Its role play and only those things that both parties are prepared to do are allowed. I can't remember much about the book but I seem to remember Grey saying on more than one occasion that he would never do anything Ana didn't want. Some people find it hard to understand the enjoyment people can get from this kind of relationship and its not to everyone's taste but its not automatically abusive either. People being abused generally tend not to have much in the way of choice.

It was originally a Twilight fanfic about Edward and Bella, and several traces of the original remain

So it turns out young women want to be treated badly, dominated, patronised, infantilized and tortured.

Thank you, pop culture. I now see what I was doing wrong.

Nothing to see here feminism. It's all a good night out for the girls and James Dornan is scrummy!

Page 3 and scientist's tee shirts is where the really dangerous misogyny is at.

You think with the amount of money this thing will make they would have hired some A listers, or even D listers.

Looks (and sounds) diabolical though so maybe they had difficulty casting it for that reason.

I feel sorry for the lads being dragged to it for Valentine's day lol

With all the hype , I really hope when people see it and realise theres no real sex or close to it. the fact that it's crap will spread and stop the continous profits for the movie.

The answer, of course, is yes.

Sadly, they won't look anything like Dakota Johnson.
On the plus side, you're probably not rich, powerful, and look like Jamie Dornan (although he is from NI, so maybe you do).
