"CD stands for corps diplomatique and is found on embassy vehicles."

    Dropping in standards it seems!

Not just diplomats cars. It could also belong to someone working in some embassy in Ireland or even some European orginasition.

My car is registered as such, usually starts some conversation around Dublin. Not quite the same privileges as a diplomat though.

I was on the Westport Castlebar road this afternoon. If you drive a 2009 D white peugeot partner with a ****ty trailer and are about 70, you are a dick. I was travelling behind said dick, going at about 80km. The trailer was one of them small single axle trailers. In it was everything but the kitchen sink, timber, metal, all pure scrap. A lot of it was small finicky stuff that shouldn't be left loose in an open trailer. Nevertheless, 2 straps were sure to keep everything good and tight...not. Heard awful rattling from the trailer so I eased off my accelerator a tad. Then all of a sudden all you see is one of the trailer floorboards collapse onto the road and out with it comes about 4 roof slates, an old teapot and a fairly large round saucepan, all of which was in my path (the saucepan was hopping like mad towards me). Don't think I jammed on the brakes as hard in all my life. Luckily there was no car behind me or it would have been messy. I laid into the horn like there was no tomorrow, but he didn't seem to pass any heed. Caught up to the prcik and overtook him hastily to avoid any repeats. Stared into him as I overtook, but he was just looking straight ahead with his gigantic glasses and his forehead glued to the windscreen. It takes all sorts.....

Nice slap on the wrist would have been good for him :)

I'd have collected a few items from the road, maybe the teapot. Then roll down the passenger window, 'hey mr fancy a cup of tae?' and fuk the cnuting thing out the window. The frying pan might be a bit ott.

Looks like the Citroen BX is being pushed into daily service for a week or two. My OHs needs the Alfa while she is awaiting her next car.

Yes, and not before time. She is getting a 2006 Seat Leon TDI. She wanted a Merc c200K coupe but insurance was an issue as she only has 12months NCB

So a thorough throttle body cleaning seems to have solved the chugging issues with the Volvo. Sounds and feels much better but I've yet to give her a proper spin out the road. I'll do that as soon as Ireland beats Italy

On the phone, so Will go into detail later. But didn't look at the primera, and won't be taking the trip.

Anyone able to comment on a Golf Estate? My mechanic reckons they're reliable enough in general.

I can't link to donedeal, but it's a red golf estate, 2000, €900 in Louth I believe. Worth a punt? (keep in mind I don't care about appearance etc. Just want something cheap and reliable.)

I seen a picture of an m4 that the dealer put up on facebook. Probably not too many of them going to be sold this year here it looked very cool.

Would certainly be a better bet then them primeras you were looking at. I think the mk4 in general was reliable enough although I'm not sure what the petrol engines are like in them is it a 1.4 or 1.6 ?

    It'd be a 1.6 petrol.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,428 ✭✭✭Dartz

Took a good long run out up to Trim today. Not exactly being lightfooted, either. Stopped for ten minutes to check something rattling in the boot and grab a snack. Fired up without a hitch and ran even better the whole way home.

    Peculiar car.

So far, I can say dipetane doesn't seem to have harmed it.

Needs somewhere more interesting to drive to.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,865 ✭✭✭✭MuppetCheck

    It'd be a 1.6 petrol.

If a timing belt was due and the gearbox was dodgy would be the first things to check. Assuming there's no proof of a belt change factor that in - about 300-350.

Door seals and central locking after that.

To be honest, no one is going to be able to give a definite answer as at that price mark it depends totally on the car. Forgive me for saying this, but you seem to be ignoring a lot of the advice on this thread because the car is cheap. I don't mean to be negative by saying that. Look on the bangernomics thread and something might turn up. If it's any good it won't last long mind, and best of luck with the search.

Was much handier than I expected actually. No mirror either! I'd say I wasn't the first person to do the job though. A few videos showed that the jubilee clips were in awkward places but mine were all turned so the screws were easy to access.

Now to do a coolant flush. I want to basically change all the fluids over the next few weeks because I haven't a clue when they were done except the oil. Think a new pair of rear drop links are in order too (hopefully thats all it is). Nct then in march

Was in topaz today filling up with diesel got a free can of coke, bag of taytos and Mars bar using that card :) so if anyone has the card i think everyone with a card gets the deal or maybe you have to have bought a certain amount of fuel I'm not sure.

Also gave the golf it's first proper clean since last summer looks the cleanest and shiniest it's been since August. The problem with polishing it is you start to see a few new small scratches and marks that weren't there the last time. Although doesn't bother me too much as none stand out or are obvious I suppose sh!t happens too.
