New family wagon. Gone from a D5 to a D4. Very impressed with the D4, it's every bit as quick as the D5, and much more refined.

Top speed and 0-60 times are the same for the current D4 & D5 manuals, with the D4 Auto being a bit quicker to 60 than the D5 Auto.

Current D4/D5 is half a second quicker to 60mph (6.9 seconds currently!) than the 2012 MY D5 (7.4 seconds, Manual & Auto).

Nice! The blue goes well with the black but I don't see that combo too often.

Very nice! I'd love to blacken my hood scoop eventually and remove some of the chrome bits at the front of the car to give it more of a matt look. Some great examples online

so £160 later and a painted back door and a coating of nano lack its back to its best, I can use the date stamps on these photos to see when it will get damaged next, such is the way of people damaging others cars. My boss had his relatively new Octavia keyed all along the back door, front door and fuel cap, some people are morons.

The parking lot, its not a public place in case anyone thinks my parking is awesome. :p

Beautiful Car, but 485 Sterling Pounds is a lot of money to tax a car for the year!
    Even for Ireland!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,697 ✭✭✭Hachiko

yep, funny thing is i did not know the tax rate when i got it, I assumed it would be the same as the auto, < 300gbp a year, (200 and something). When I went to the post office to get tax i was like, errrrrrrr.

This has higher emissions than the auto which is weird, usually its the other way around. Its still lively to drive.

Eh - not really. The same car would cost the bones of €1100 over here so £485 sounds like a steal in comparison!

tax in Ireland is nuts, that's something we can all agree on. !

    231g/km?

Was the private plate expensive may I ask?

Would it annoy you to think that the non car enthusiast person would think you're driving an 05 car and not an 08?

    It's actually 2350 euro

And for an 08 car I was making a comparison with other 08 cars in Ireland, not a particular model.

I wouldn't call it "a steal" unless you're happy with the entire Irish road network!!

I don't care what other people think really, if someone thinks its a 05 that's fine by me. It does look a bit new-ish for a 05 but maybe that's just me.

if I could get an is350 I would, these are seriously reliable motors. The economy difference between a 250 and 350 is marginal also, even the 5.0 IS-F can get over 30mpg on long runs, that too is bomb proof in terms of reliability.

Now we're getting pedantic - if it was first registered before 01 July '08 then my post stands.

Considering I'm paying over €700 for a 2.0 then yeah, I'd consider the £485 for a 2.5 a steal in comparison regardless of the state of the road network (I'm sure there's some crap roads in the UK too). Maybe others wouldn't - tis only my opinion.

Though I will admit I didn't realise it was an '08 - I just quickly glanced at the plate. :o

Depends really. If it was first registered before 1st July 2008 then it could be taxed on capacity which is just under €1100. If it was after 1st July 2008 then its emmissions and €2350.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,697 ✭✭✭Hachiko

well its march/april 2008 i think when first registered.

We have crap roads here too I can assure you.

All imported cars registered in 2008 overseas fall into the Co2 based tax system regardless of which month they were registered in an overseas country in 2008.

In this case, this Lexus IS250 was registered in the UK in March 2008, however if one were to import it into Ireland now it would be based on the C02 based tax rate system, a staggering 2,350 euro a year!

However, if a Lexus is250 was registered in Ireland in March 2008, it would be based on the CC based tax rate system, at 1080 euro a year.

    *scratches head.

Is that the upper tax band in Ireland...?!, I think 500GBP is the limit in the uk., so this weedy 2.5 is almost at the upper end itself.

    This is crazy:eek:

Is this Lexus less environment-friendly than the other one:confused:

I do understand there always has to be a deadline / point in the law but this one is just:confused:

On the other hand all those diesels that are not so clean anymore. They were so clean and green not so long ago....Now they are not?

Let's just charge every household €2000 per year for having a car - that would make sense. Or even better - €10000 per year.

I have one of those exact cars:

I drive an '08 520d which was registered in the UK in March '08, driven as a demo and imported/registered in Ireland in December '08 with 4000 km on the clock. It was one of what BMW called the Sterling Collection.

I pay the low emissions based tax.

Wouldn't I be correct in saying that 2008 cars go on whichever motor tax system is cheaper or has that changed? It used to be the case anyway

I think the issue is more the frankly REDICULOUS jump to the top rate from the 2nd highest on the c02 system.

I THINK you've got a rate of around 1200 on c02 - and then you jump to the massive nightmare 2 k plus top rate.

Theres actually no need for a 2 k plus top rate - as we have seen how Irish people are happy to spend to go from a car on 700/800 euro tax on old system to 200 euros or less on the new tax system.

I think 1200 should be the TOP rate - no need for a higher one
