Blind's first touch is one of the best at the club easily.

Also popular opinion is not turning on Carrick, I just think Blind suits the team better in an attacking sense and you don't lose much defensively having him there over Carrick.
...am I reading this correctly. Blind's first touch would be behind Mata, Di Maria, Hererra, Falcao, RvP, Rooney, Januzaj .. easily.

Blind's forward passing isn't anything special. Probably not better than Carrick's either.

You would hope so but so far he seems to be just shoehorning Rooney into cm so he gets all 3 on the pitch.
A CM of Blind,Herrera and Di Maria seems to me to be the best option. Then you gotta have the balls to drop one from Rooney,Mata,Falcao and RVP.

Fellaini has a right to feel like he has earnt gametime in there as well. We have enough vompetition in midfield without shoe-horning Rooney into it as well.

Rooney's first touch can be absolutely shocking, for a player of his talents it never seemed to improve over time.

What I like about Blind is his composure under pressure, that's Carrick's weakness, pity we didn't see Herrera in midfield along with Blind today.

One thing annoying me about Di Maria is whenever he gets the ball around the edge of the area, he nearly always goes for a Hollywood shot instead of spreading it wide or looking for a through ball. Very frustrating at times.

Things have changed quite a bit around here since the days when the idea that first touch is important for CMs was an unpopular one.

I think this incident proves first touch is pretty important ;)

There have been about three or four different posters this evening saying that Blind's ability in tight spots is a lot better than Carrick's. There was even a post saying that Blind plays it out to the wings better than Carrick.

Not sure you were refering to me but i said because he was very good off both feet he can get it out to both wings with ease, facing the back four when pressed he can lay it off both right and left and back not a option for carrick due to having a much weaker left foot.

You also mentioned players avoid taking the ball in tight spaces well sometimes they dont have a choice to if the backs dont have another option we played very few if any long balls today and some of that is down to Blind looking to recieve the ball in tight spots and being comfortable to do so.

Happy with 1st half but disappointed with 2nd.

    3 points is 3 points.

Falcao was yet again super. Delighted for him. Rooney is just not CM. Get him out of there!!!

If we start a poorly produced reality show called "I'm a Centre forward, get me out of here" Get Rooney on it and get those twats Ant and Dec to present it, just how many beers have I had to drink today?

Yeah, it was your post I was refferring to.

Indeed, sometimes they don't have a choice. And more importantly, it's something they should be looking to do regularly since it creates space for their teammates.

We did play fewer long balls today, but I'd say that was down to playing with a more suitable formation and playing against a team that gave us lots of space.

Let's hope it doesn't take as long for Van Gaal to see the light regarding getting Rooney out of midfield as it has for him to change to 442

That is way too long a learning curve

No better man to argue the case than the man himself.

I'd love to be wrong but I don't think we've seen the last of the 5 at the back.

Just from watching the highlights on game of the day I'm not sure how Blind got man of the match, Di Maria looks very average yet again, Rooney needs to be further forward, Jacuzzi looks to be regaining last year's form and Jones looked alot more comfortable in his preferred position.

Maybe LVG was right today to play both Falcao and RVP, as they both scored.

Whatever about whether Rooney is a better midfielder than Fell or Herrera, his goal scoring record is phenomenal.

It was Leicester at home after all, and even with Rooney in midfield they still had mist possession and controlled the game.

Sometimes the smaller teams can park the bus so it takes something special to make the breakthrough.

One thing I have noticed this season and again today is that the smaller teams in the league are far more defensively organised this year. You really have to work to get space and create chances.

Morgan, despite his OG, was one of the best players on the pitch today.

I might agree if we didn't have decent options up top. Rooney is holding back what could be an excellent midfield containing the like of Mata,Herrera, blind,Carrick , Fellaini and Di Maria.

Whilst I'm disappointed Herrera isn't getting games I'm delighted LVG recognises what a lot of people around here don't in that Rafael is SH1T and isn't good enough for us , the thing is though whilst Herrera should be starting there are players out there that are better , Lvg doesn't rate home so he's probably going to sign a midfielder in the summer , please be pogba .

Rafael is absolutely better than Valencia.

Just chiming in here but Ant and Dec are brilliant - twats they are not!

Happy with the four at the back, the three goals and the three points but.........

If this is what we have to look forward to under LVG, this type of football, then I'll be annoyed. Even with four at the back today we looked a bit limp, lots of backwards passing, poor wide play, safety first football and passes to the defense.

We used to be very aggressive and direct. We would go at teams right from the off with intensity. We look limp and dithering on the attack these days. The team doesn't look well drilled enough for me, many of them seem to be on a different wave lenght and lack discipline when working together as a unit and holding a formation.

It seems Fergies ruthless and direct personaility was the dna of his teams. I wonder will we ever see those days again.

Right now it doesn't look like LVG will supply it but I'm holding out for next season when he has a further year to develop and get the squad he wants together, than maybe we'll see better football going forward. I'm worried about the future though.

Winning with style is what we used to do best :(

I think you need to move on from fergie YA.

We used to do a lot of things, now we had a new manager and new team. Things change. Especially soccer. Look at Dortmund, last in Germany and cl finalists 2 years ago.

No point talking about past glories and past systems when we don't have the same players.

Was impressed with Blind today, his positioning was good as was his control in tight situations. Still think Di Maria has more to do. His blaze over the bar when put through was something I didn't expect from someone of his quality.. Rooney was far from his best but I'll take 3 points any day of the week. Def have to stick with 4 at the back, the centre halfs looked comfortable apart from the odd **** up from Jones. And yes I know it was only Leicester but we have looked nervous against poorer teams at the back this season. Confused by the use of Valencia instead of Raf, as even going forward he seems to get confused what to do when he has a couple of seconds to think about it. All in all hopefully the win can help build a bit of confidence going forward.. Roll on the hammers next week

I've missed a lot the recent games including today with work how's Di María been playing?

A player of his quality it's a bit worrying that where not getting the best out of him. The last few weeks I've really expected him to be all over the opisition.

When was that? Even if you had only the most basic appreciation of the game you'd realise that having a good first touch is vital in all positions on the field. In general the standard of posters, with some exceptions, is good so I'm surprised by your comment.

    Thats probably the reason why.
