Is it ok to laugh at this

Just seen this story and my first reaction was to laugh but then I felt bad for laughing.

THE Head of Rome’s Jewish community got trapped in Auschwitz – before being arrested as he tried to make his way out.

Riccardo Pacifici was doing a TV interview after a ceremony to mark the 70th anniversary of the camp’s liberation.

When he went to leave, he realised that the camp’s gates were closed.

Mr Pacifici’s grandparents were murdered in the camp, and he was giving an interview to Portuguese TV.

The group was moved to a local police station and released at around 6am after several hours of questioning through an interpreter.

Was there no-one in the watch-tower to make sure all the guests were safe and secure? Or some sort of List of who was supposed to be in and then coming back out? The people running the event mustn't have been concentrating at all, which is ridiculous. Poor form. No way to treat guests. Has anything like this happened there in the past?

I think it depends whether you are laughing at the situation or laughing at the Jews.

One is pretty funny, the other is bigoted.

What an odd thing to claim. In fact, the Irish collaboration with the Allies is well-documented - plenty of their guys were repatriated while the Germans were interned. The Cranborne report stated (from wikipedia):

I would suspect that was done on purpose (in a "this would be funny" mentality rather than an anti-semetic way).

I find the attempts at humour to be in bad taste,my wife is GERMAN and one of her relatives died in the camps,and she is very touchy about jokes etc being made at his demise,and it is rather sad-he got drunk one night while on duty and fell out of the watchtower.

Absurd, crazy situations like this one result in humour. It doesn't matter how much of a sacred cow the source material is. People find humour in unlikely coincidences.

Making that out to be some form of bigotry is almost as absurd as the story in the OP.
