Not really, 31% of Americans don't add up to s**t, they probably don't vote or own a passport. Why should the civilised world care what they think?

Ignorance is bliss as they say, but really a lot of Americans and people in general for that matter are idiots.

What's even more scary it that 2% of scientists share the view that a god created us.

Do they hand out doctorates to any idiot nowadays?

31% don't believe in evolution? That means 69% do believe..... I'll settle for that

What about the remaining 67% of people? What do they think?

From my experience of the US school system, we started the day by praying to a flag. I wouldn't really expect much.

At least the people who go on to work in these areas appear to be mostly having some intelligence.

They think the other 2% should have a say in the survey too! :D

I'm always sceptical of these surveys. My anecdotal experience of Americans is that the ratio of smart to unsmart people is more or less the same as it is everywhere else.

Well I'm a creationist. So it doesn't surprise me.

So 31% of average Americans haven't noticed they are both taller and heavier than their forbears?

Pfft, come back to me when ye pray before each and every class of the day. Proper prayers. Any teacher not implementing this was a rarity and speculated to be an extreme leftie.

That's environmental, Harry. They are healthier and better fed so they come closer to their biological maximums.

Didn't Stephen Hawking say that we're all free to believe whatever we want?

But environmental development be-gets evolutionary development at least in part . Its not all about growing a third eye.

A third eye would be silly, I couldn't keep my glasses on at all with that.

But that's true. I was only looking at 2-3 generations but it would have a big effect over 10s of generations alright.

Got to take these surveys with a pinch of salt. But lets say its true for a second. So 31% of people believe we didnt envolve.... Who cares?

Sorry op, but what exactly do you want... everyone to believe the same thing? ... same thing as you of course ;)

"Leaders of the free world" Ignorant slobs. Rome in its heyday wasn't a patch on them.
Don't worry too much about it though, people with everything and every knowledge the world has to offer available to them and who choose to believe in sky faries creating the world won't last more than another few generations.

And that's what's wrong with the world. If everyone minded their own beliefs, we'd all be grand.

In Australia in a survey taken last year: 1 in 4 Australians think humans coexisted with dinosaurs and 59% surveyed didn't know it takes 365 days for the earth to orbit the sun.... I don't think stupidity is solely the domain of the Americans.

But they are nearer to us and also (for the moment anyway) the most powerful nation on earth. It is a big concern that one third believe in a 7 day creation over the 13.5 billion years it actually took.

I wouldn't call it stupidity, I would call it uneducated that's all. Would you be stupid if a person asked you to build the circuit for a radio receiver and you couldn't build it ? of course not, you would just be uneducated in the field.

97.3% of intelligent people are excellent at avoiding those likely to request that they participate in a survey... sooo the percentage is not so bad.

Who cares. Let everyone believe in what they want to believe in as long as they're not harming anyone. What do you want from this thread. For people to say they're thick then b about them. Pointless. Funny thing is they problem think you're crazy for thinking the opposite and I'd tell them the same thing.

Because they probably do vote, and if they do vote, they will vote Republican.

Thinking that dinosaurs and humans coexisted is stupidity.
Not knowing that a year is 365 days and it takes that long for the earth to complete a full revolution of the sun is stupidity.
Comparing those 2 basic truths to the building of an electronic circuit for a radio receiver is....well . you know

How is it stupid if you've never been taught anything to contradict it?
