Anyone who I've discussed this with always offers up the same names; French and Saunders, Victoria Wood, Miranda Hart, which just strengthens the case against. Women CAN be funny (Kristen Wiig would be my carefully chosen example) but most simply are not. Women stand ups however are atrocious, if they are compared against top male stand ups its like comparing the World Cup to the Women's World Cup, same ball but Jesus its a tough watch.

Just posting to say fuk Melissa McCarthy!
I think she's hilarious in Bridesmaids, I don't pay attention to her being fat.

I think women tend not to step over the line with standup comedy which is prob why I'm never amused by them

Na she reminds me of Kevin James, plays up on her weight for laughs... hate that type of comedy

    Women are hilarious.

One woman talking about her vagina or deadbeat husband isn't

And for some people they're still hilarious every single time. Different people, different tastes :)

Eleanor Tiernan is the best I've ever seen - much funnier than French & Saunders and that one who looks a bit like a horse.

There have been loads of funny women: Joan Rivers, Lucille Ball, Roseanne Barr, Gilda Radner etc.

It doesn't come into her part in Bridesmaids though. I know what you mean (Jo Brand used to be the same - Spitting Image did a sketch on her where she suddenly deflates into a slim woman and has nothing to joke about) but that film IMO demonstrates how she has comic talent without needing to rely on the fat angle.

It's harder for women to pull it off. I've made jokes with friends that didn't go down well and then heard a guy use the same joke but he pulled it off.

jo brand, dawn french, jennifer saunders, tina fey etc etc

Jo Brand's comedy consists of her talking about how fat and ugly she is.

    Tiny Fey is very good.

In real life I don't know a single girl that is actually funny/witty

Well with the exception of that show Miranda, all h......

Actually, her show was shıte tbh.

Lilly savage is funny enough, and Dame Edna had some cracking one liners.

I thought I was the only one that thought the Miranda show was sh*te. I watched the last one for some unknown reason. What a waste of a half an hour.

Love Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.

To be honest, while there are obviously funny women, I'd agree with the consensus that men, in general, seem funnier. As someone said, women don't seem to push the boundaries as much. This, from what I have observed, seems to be true.

Men and women are different though, it's not an attack on women to come to this conclusion.

I find my sense of humour kinda blokey. I know tons of girls are gonna say that, particularly on the internet :pac: but genuinely there's stuff I couldn't joke about with a lot of my female friends. It's not utterly obscene or anything, but it's crude and crass, and there is absolutely zero issue with saying it to guys.

Etc is a very convenient device when you run out of examples. As is "I don't have to write a list, its just true . . ."

There was an article in the Guardian recently where someone mentioned women not being funny and the PC brigade attacked in force. Token women comedians and actresses dragged out simply because they were known, not on merit. If we're honest there isn't a single woman in the top twenty stand ups of all time, and maybe two or three in the top 100.

I wonder if the women pointing out they're not like "typical" women in this thread are funny. Because women aren't funny. So they have to be like guys. To be funny. That's pretty ****ing funny.

Men are funnier cause it gets them laid, its evolutionary,I think hitchens said that.
