    Do you agree or disagree?

    I completely disagree. I'm a woman and I'm hilarious.

You'll have to do better for that statement to be in anyway true.

Disagree. I find Sarah Silverman hilarious.

Well with the exception of that show Miranda, all h......

Actually, her show was shıte tbh.

Lilly savage is funny enough, and Dame Edna had some cracking one liners.

I don't find female comedians funny ever but i think the average girl on the street is funnier than the average lad so many lads are way too serious

Many comediennes are not funny. Some, however, are hilarious - French and Saunders, and Victoria Wood for a start.

No, no, no and I'll let you have Tina fey. Sarah mc millan is also funny but they are a rarity. Exception to the rule.

I generally dont find female stand ups much good but I think Sarah Millican is feckin brilliant.

Women in general can be funny, no different than men. Female comedians are terribad however. All they ever talk about are vaginas. You're female, pushing the boundaries, blah blah. We ****ing get it already.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22,559 ✭✭✭✭AnonoBoy

Why do some people see an unfunny woman on a stage or in a show and say "See? Women aren't funny!" whereas an unfunny man just gets. "That guy isn't funny!"

To be honest I think anyone who says "X just aren't funny." where X is a huge swathe of people defined by race, gender, religion or whatever is just a bit dim.

All of them are like that? Wow. Must have spend a while to see them all.

If you can't think of any good female comedians, you probably aren't watching a lot of comedy (beyond the usual panel shows and Live at the Apollo).

Why would you or anyone presume that all people of the same gender are similar in this or in any regard?

All female comedians are brilliant compared to Jim Davidson.

Really? I sometimes feel like she's only ever recorded 5 TV appearances and they're shown over and over again.

Well, that's just, like, your opinion man. I, and others, happen to think that F&S etc are funny. That is because humour is subjective. For example, I would rather drive a spike through my hand than watch Sarah Millican do stand up.

I don't know many female comedians but yeah, women in real life can be as funny or as unfunny as men. I know a **** load.

Nobody, male or female, is funny at every single moment.
Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders - and Joanna Lumley, in character - are among the smartest and most professional comedians of either sex.

But perhaps the OP didn't mean "funny" as in, comedy on stage? Maybe they meant, just not an amusing topic?
That I'll grant. Men are much funnier, with their little dangly undercarriage - and the poor sad socks.

    :-)

    Smiling already. Men are funny!

THERE IS NO NEW GHOSTBUSTERS MOVIE, GHOSTBUSTERS 3 CAME OUT ON PS3/360/PC THEN IT DIED.

That's all we will say on ghostbusters

Anyone who I've discussed this with always offers up the same names; French and Saunders, Victoria Wood, Miranda Hart, which just strengthens the case against. Women CAN be funny (Kristen Wiig would be my carefully chosen example) but most simply are not. Women stand ups however are atrocious, if they are compared against top male stand ups its like comparing the World Cup to the Women's World Cup, same ball but Jesus its a tough watch.

I think she's hilarious in Bridesmaids, I don't pay attention to her being fat.

I think women tend not to step over the line with standup comedy which is prob why I'm never amused by them

Eleanor Tiernan is the best I've ever seen - much funnier than French & Saunders and that one who looks a bit like a horse.

It doesn't come into her part in Bridesmaids though. I know what you mean (Jo Brand used to be the same - Spitting Image did a sketch on her where she suddenly deflates into a slim woman and has nothing to joke about) but that film IMO demonstrates how she has comic talent without needing to rely on the fat angle.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,077 ✭✭✭Saralee4

It's harder for women to pull it off. I've made jokes with friends that didn't go down well and then heard a guy use the same joke but he pulled it off.

Jo Brand's comedy consists of her talking about how fat and ugly she is.

    Tiny Fey is very good.

In real life I don't know a single girl that is actually funny/witty

I thought I was the only one that thought the Miranda show was sh*te. I watched the last one for some unknown reason. What a waste of a half an hour.
