Barca dominated the period but still were beatable, it's a shame we hadn't got a proper team to give them a good game on both occasions

At least these days we are identifying problem areas and going after players to fix them

When you look at our squad for the Champions League final in 2011, you realise how good a manager Fergie was. Some serious dross there.

I read (from an actual worthy source) that Ando can go for free.

I wouldn't believe or even listen to anyone who has "agent" in their name btw.

He won't leave, contract is up in the summer and he'll earn over 2 million sitting on his backside until then

Unless some club is foolish enough to offer him similar money

This is bad news for Strootman, needs surgery due to calcification of the ligaments after his previous op.

And as bumbleswizz said,Ando's contract has been terminated.

Playing Hernandez in that match was one of Fergie's biggest mistakes IMO.

We still probably would've lost but Nani and Valencia on the flanks would've given a good counter attacking threat at the time and Park would've done a better job of disrupting Busquets from starting attacks, something Rooney couldn't get to grips with. Rooney would've done a much better job of holding the ball up top than Hernandez did. It was almost like playing with 10 men at times such was the ineffectiveness of Chico.

Not playing Hernandez would have been viewed as massive mistake, he was in excellent form and one of the main reason along with Rooney why we had very good second half in that season.

Giggs was excellent in the champions league games before final. IIRC Park was given role to mark Dani Alves which he failed massively.

As a team whole team failed but Giggs, Valencia, Hernanez and Rooney were in fine form going into that final, dropping anyone would have been a mistake. Maybe Giggs could have been dropped as he didn't have legs to chase Barca midfielders.

giggs and hernandez vs chelsea were some of the best performances that season so probably earned them a spot. never understood park playing instead of nani who was in great form at the time. sure he may not have worked as much but would have offered the team far more going forward

Park was unable to give his full attention to Alves because he was too busy covering in the centre. He even switched with Giggs at one point iirc.

Limiting Busquet's influence first and foremost was key as he was the one that was starting the attacks most of the time. Once it was clear that Rooney couldn't manage that we were screwed IMO. Park had the energy and tactical awareness to do a decent job on him.

Hernandez was in excellent form but this was possibly the greatest club side of all time, we needed to adjust our tactics and play style to make things as difficult as possible for them and that didn't happen.

Strootman himself had this to say on Twitter.
There's a lot of speculation in the media about me and I would like to explain to all the fans what the real problem is. In the match...1/4

..v Fiorentina I got a knock on my left knee. It's bruised and therefore I should rest my knee for a couple of weeks. This gives me the..2/4

opportunity to remove some scar tissue which has bothered me a bit after the last surgery and this will help me further in getting back..3/4

...to my old level. It's nothing serious and I will be back on the pitch as soon as possible 4/4

So not as bad as being made out it seems.

    37M for Hummels

Its in line with what Utd have been paying for players in the last 18 months so no real surprise.

Its also in line with high profile CBs as well. Personally would be very, very happy with that fee if its true.

Park had a fairly epic influence in some of the big games at the end of the 10/11 season. I remember he was particularly great in the league game v Chelsea.

Matt Law saying Cuadrado to Chelski is "almost done"

He would have been a good signing had we tried (maybe we did, i dunno)

I still reckon we'll sign one or two before the deadline.

We paid almost as much for Shaw and Herrera who were unproven, strange the reaction Hummels is getting in here

Still think he's a a player with a very high ceiling but also a low floor when it comes to his performances. He'll have games where he'll look unbelievable but then plenty others where he's anonymous.

Not strictly United related but a nice bonus all the same

Official: BBC are awarded Premier League UK highlight rights for seasons 2016/17 - 2018/19.

BBC's new deal will include televising midweek Premier League highlights on Wednesdays.

Arn't Germany only recently back from their winter break? So should be nice and rested too ;)

It's a bid sad on the other hand to see what was a tremendous Dortmund side coming apart window by window.

While we are there should see if we could get Bender on special :)

Did I read that BT won the Champions LEague rights from next season, so not only are the premier league matches split across two entirely seperate sports packages, the Champions league will as well?

The last standing big tick for having Sky Sports is that you got all the CL matches, if they are going to get split out to BT...is it any wonder people pirate.

Still shocks me they're 17th in the league, thought it might have been just a slow start at the season but to be still there going into February, they genuinely are facing a relegation battle, crazy stuff.

BTSport have the sole UK CL rights, they have said that for "big games" they'll allow ITV to show it too though. All for a price one assumes.

    wow hold on.

Sky will have NO Champions league next year?

Are they not still ravaged by injury? They were in absolute bits at the start of the season.

That's my point. Utd are paying a very big 'they have cash' premium of late.

    Yep, zilch.

The worst bit is them taking the terrestrial UK rights too though. No more having the option of the RTE or the ITV game.
