Ya i-parcel completely lost an item I ordered recently - first time I've ever had them as carrier (hopefully last too), or had a parcel lost; can't re-order the item now either, as it's out of stock.

on the website (iparcel) it says they are UPS. I've never had anything but great service from UPS. I wonder are they separate?

Also I had an Amazon package sent out today, delivery by An Post... Wonder will it be here tomorrow haha. Lucky its not Christmas related.

    When was it dispatched?

I just checked an order sent with supersaver. I ordered the 6th, dispatched the 7th, and delivered the 11th.

Only time something takes longer for me is when it is sent using i-parcel.

It was ordered on the 1st and then dispatched on the 11th although there was no indication my order was going to be late dispatching. It was sent with An Post as the carrier.
This is my 4th order where this has happened now. On the earliest 2 I was told by someone in An Post when he tracked it that the parcel had never arrived in Ireland at all even though it said on tracking that it had been handed over to the carrier An Post.
I got onto amazon today and sent them a link to this thread but the guy I spoke to sounded very uninterested.

Parcel delivery may well be dependent on where you are living in terms of a particular route for a driver . Knowing delivery guys with a couple of companies including an post . If you're at the end of their run they may not have got to your area for a few days especially with couriers who cover a larger area. A guy I know with one of the couriers hasn't got to the last village on his route in a week.

To put in context he's normally got about 100 drops a day . At the moment it's about 500 it's been near 600 a few days. It is impossible to deliver everything unless everyone is home. weather is perfect.. no traffic and your flinging parcels out the window at customers as you drive past their house.

Online shopping has gone mental busy and increased work load by x5 in his case. .

Depending on where a customer might live they may just have to wait til after xmas.

Bear in mind the maths of this too. Even at 300 drops . If a guy has a 12 hr day it'll take an hr to scan and load parcels correctly for route ahead. Let's say 20 mins drive to first drop from depot and 20 mins back from last drop to depot. Surely he'll have 20 mins to grab a sandwich/take a piss etc. That's his delivery time cut to 10 hrs

10 hrs is 600 mins which gives exactly 2 mins to deliver a parcel get it signed for or write a delivery slip. Get back in van and get to next stop within 2 mins and repeat all day long. With Christmas traffic .. bad rain etc. The maths are simple that it's an impossibility for a lot of guys to deliver every item every day. The items that are not delivered will be brought back to a depot for re delivery the next day hopefully.

I ordered from hmv.ie, was dispatched on 9th Dec and still hasn't arrived. Hmv says it's sent with an post. The brother had similar problems with Amazon recently. But I must say that I never had problems like this before with an post.

An Post must be under pressure because I was expecting an Amazon delivery on Friday to Drogheda and An Post has sent it to Dundalk!! And the tracking has been like this since Friday morning (even though An Post was operating Saturday 20th).

Update on this. This was delivered after a couple of days of "WTF?" pause at Dundalk. Delayed by about 3 days.
    23 December 2014, 12:12 pm, DROGHEDA Delivered
23 December 2014, 9:12 am, DROGHEDA Out for delivery
22 December 2014, 12:12 pm, DUBLIN PARCEL CENTRE Parcel arrived at a carrier facility
19 December 2014, 5:12 am, DUNDALK Possible delay in delivery due to arrival at incorrect carrier facility
18 December 2014, 11:12 am, DUBLIN PARCEL CENTRE Parcel received by carrier
17 December 2014, 5:04 pm, Ridgmont Bedfordshire UK Parcel has been handed over to the carrier and is in transit

I have another parcel I am tracking right now, and Amazon says they 'Dispatched' with An Post on Saturday, 27th December. An Post closed until today, 29th. The item is still not on An Post tracking yet.

Question - when Amazon said they "Dispatched with An Post, tracking number XXX" at Ridgmont Bedfordshire UK, does that actually mean they have handed it over to An Post man/truck there (and making it's way to Dublin over the holiday period), or does it simply mean Amazon has set aside it in corner of the warehouse where An Post will pick up when ever An Post wishes to (today when they get back from holidays)? Probably the latter right?

A couple of my UK online orders - despatched around 8 / 9 December - only arrived yesterday morning.

At present waiting for an order that was despatched on the 17 of Dec from UK, estimated delivery was the 24th of Dec.
Rang An Post to see if they have received it, nothing there, wondering now should I ask the sender for a refund as it is 21 days in transit somewhere. Or should I wait.. Seller has offered a refund..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,232 ✭✭✭marklazarcovic

an post does not go to the UK to collect anything from anyone...its only deal with by an post once it reaches Ireland... lots of these threads with blame an post titles even though the turnaround once a item reaches Ireland is 2-4 days Max... rarely goes over that and is usually 2 days.... if something is posted in the uk-france-italy-oz etc etc until it reaches Ireland an post does not touch it.....amazed that people think once they order something abroad that its in an posts possession almost immediately

also I had 2 items ordered from Amazon that never arrived...got refunded for both as they never left the UK...unexplained reasons

Ordered a pc part from Amazon.

Had a missed delivery Friday, funny as I made sure to be there. Postman must have been like some stealthy ninja slipping that card in. Won't be getting anything delivered to my home again. It was a complete waste of my time and money.

Rang them up asap, paid for it to be re delivered.

Nothing today, rang them , it is being delivered. Back to amazon or to me? "Em can't say". What century is this?

They do not give a rats about providing a good service, this much I'm sure of.

Update for anyone who wonders how did they miss the postman.

Re delivery didn't arrive. Rang an post complaints. Who were confused as my package said signed for and delivered. Turns out the driver was not bothered to deliver, hit a wall when I wanted to know who had signed for the package as it clearly was not me. And why was it all of a sudden being fast tracked to me after I complained.??

Very unprofessional, made zero attempt to deliver and the only explanation I can see is that someone forged signatures and lied about delivery. Where it was going to end up until I complained is anyone's guess.

This is the national postal service.

I suspect it depends a lot on what route/postal code you're on. Both our average on the bike postie and his colleague in the van (could do with a cycle that chap) are great, they know to tap on the window if we cant hear the bell and will even stash it in a hideaway and leave a note to say its there. Probably against the rules but mad convenient.

The tracking system can be very hit and miss though, I've had things marked as delivered both 2 days before arriving and 2 days after.

Just got this in an email.
We are writing to let you know that one of your packages (#1234, etc) has been returned to our fulfillment centre as undeliverable.

Parcel (3 DVDs) was dispatched on the 23rd. I've not had this problem before. Presumably reorder and opt for Parcel Motel instead...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,992 ✭✭✭_Whimsical_

I have had the same issue this week again, my 4th undelilverable parcel. I've read about it happening to someone today over on the BB forum.
Seems crazy that they aren't following up on this.

I have found their online chat reps are very unhelpful these days, a totally different calibre than they have been in the past. I don't think they're the type to care enough to log issues and escalate a problem that's regularly occurring.

I used their chat thing as well. The rep suggested the label might have been smudged in transit. I've reordered.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,992 ✭✭✭_Whimsical_

Maybe if all of us who have this problem were to email them, explain the issue and link to this thread one of the service reps might escalate it to someone who might help?

I've linked it in the chat twice now but I felt the person I spoke to pretty much ignored me.

First time ever I had an undelivered parcel from Amazon that was returned to them (I've had lost parcels before >>> iparcel).

Had been waiting a couple of days past the expected delivery date expecting the postman to call and then get an email to say I've had a refund.

Went back and counted up how many deliveries I've had from Amazon.co.uk with the same address and gave up at a 100 so on one hand that's not a bad average but as the address hasn't changed in all that time it seems strange they couldn't deliver? Definitely not a problem with the Postman who goes out of his way to deliver stuff here.

I did hear from one of the couriers that Amazon have used that sometimes they get stuff in to the main depot with no deliverable address on it, the address would read something like

    User name
    Address Line 1
    Address Line 2
    Address Line 3
    Address Line 4

but then that could just be an excuse.

Just to post the other side of the coin.

I placed an order with Amazon on Wednesday morning - with free delivery, so normally rather slower than standard delivery - and it arrived through the letter box with the rest of our normal morning post delivery about 30 minutes ago.

I had the same problem at Christmas; ordered two dash cams in the St Steohens / Boxing Day sales, along with various household items (toaster, kettle etc) - everything turned up bar the dash cams. I called and was told the expected delivery date was wrong and to wait another week. The following day I got an email stating they had gone back undeliverable. Amazon said it was possibly a smudged label.

I asked if they could be re delivered but was told it wasn't possible, that I had to place another order. Of course they wouldn't honour the sale price at 40% off! no it would be at the new price. So I left it... Customer service guy was very unhelpful too on the phone

Second or third undeliverable package for me since last October now. Can't see the point in ordering stuff on amazon anymore if every second or third package is being sent back. I wouldn't mind but I live right next to the bloody depot, I'd happily just go pick it up myself if it meant I actually got the deliveries.
