Cheers lads, I haven't actually got it yet (getting it at christmas). Will probably just get a cheap amazon one in the mean time because nothing else really seems coming up. Don't think I've any real need for the keyboard folio.

I am using vlc beta for video playback based on the fact that I've used it for years on the pc. Is there a better one out there that can work with the chromecast?

Would like some opinions to... Sold my nexus ten and either going for a nexus 9 or Samsung tab s.. The tab s is meant to have a fantastic screen and it has expandable storage.. Downside is no vanilla android :( not liking the reports of screen bleed with nexus 9

Sorry for not replying sooner, since you posted VLC has come out of beta and is now available on the playstore. Still no chromecast support but if you cast the screen and play something in VLC it's like casting.

Have you tried BubbleUPnP, it's my favorite choice for casting local media!

    No noticeable screen-bleed on mine!

I am happy with my purchase, just wish there was more games/demos to utilize the Tegra K1 chip.

I'm liking my 9 a lot. I'm experimenting with Android a lot having just bought a cheap Chinese Android phone I'm strongly considering getting a nexus 5 or 6. Only thing I don't like over my old windows phone is it doesn't read my text messages and I have to tap the mic on the Google search bar rather than just hold down the button on my Bluetooth headset to initiate a voice call.
I will have a look at the bubbleupnp and see what it's like. My wife will be taking the laptop that's currently acting as the media player for our TV for work so I will have the nexus and the chromecast only.
My favourite app BTW is airdroid. I convert my TV shows and movies using freemake and send them from the laptop wireless then.
Any opinions on the new origami style cover? I'd buy one if it was a tenner less and actually available!

BTW, DicePlayer is another good media player app.

Very Limited selection of Nexus 9 Tegra K1 based games/demos have been released so far. And because it has a different chip than the shield, apps that work on the shield don't automatically work on the 9.

Hero Panda Bomber (Freemium) is optimized for K1.

Shiny The Firefly THD is another choice (haven't played it myself) but good reviews on XDA.

Not optimized for Tegra K1 (but I have enjoyed on the 9) are: -

    Hellraid: The Escape
    The Cave
    Shardlands
République looks good on the 9, but I have only played it a small bit.

Telltales: Games of Thrones also looks good on it.

Some of the above have already been recommended by others on this thread, Thanks.

I keep checking the Playstore with this Search for new games/demos.

    Regards
    John

Think right now the 32bit k1 CPU in the nvidia tablet has the upper hand in the gaming front as its been aground longer but its only matter of time before shield app is working on the 64bit version in the nexus 9 too.
If your a gamer, using the shield app to play PC games (from your own PC or server located) is just fantastic. Note: right now its a little laggy but they are going to be using Irish locted servers within weeks if not already) the k1 optimized android games are worth it too and help show off the power of that CPU.

So as of now I think the Nexus 9 and Nvidia Shield are still the only two officially running Lollipop.

So are you a media fan or gamer? Book reader of movie watcher? 16x9 or 4x3? If your still undecided this video may help you.

Will have another lookbduring the weekend, but may wait for HTC to release something new.

Good sound off this trough the headphone socket compared to my landvo l200 Chinese phone. I think I might be tempted to hunt down a nexus 5 or 6 next. I tether the data from my phone so that I can listen to spotify. I'm looking now for recommendations for podcast apps (don't mind if they're paid) and a music streaming service (I will be moving to the U.S soon so I will have the pick of the bunch!)

Will it be able to read otg usb sticks?

By the use of ES File Explorer you can use OTG usb sticks.

If you root, stickmount app also works.

Stick with Spotify in terms of music streaming.

Might wait and see if that new Nokia tablet is released here.

got nexus 9 for oh for Xmas, only opened it two days ago this is when ewe exchanged gifts

did it's updates but have encountered power\display issues since

when the lock screen is set up , once you unlock it either via swipe or pin they screen goes off and you turn it back on and goes back to lock so you are in a continuous lock unless you reboot , to over come this we disabled the lock screen , not ideal but solved problem

this morning , at 50% the tablet screen with black like it had been left idle but was set for 2 mins but went after 10secs , pressed power button wouldn't come back on , plugged in charger and was able to access again

my oh isn't tech minded and this is why I got her nexus 9 easy to use and wouldn't have issues like this

I have googled but nothing showed up

anyone have same issue or can help??:-(

I ordered 16gb but that's cause I'd mainly use it for books and comics. Use Google music and Netflix as well so it's mainly games that would eat my space
