B767-400 being used on the SNN-EWR route this morning. That's defaintly a rare occurrence. I generally find united always have spare 757's and unlike Delta and US airways they never schedule 767's in the event of a problem on a 757.

Possible smoke in the cockpit and burning/smokey smell. Fire crews requested to inspect.

Frustratingly I haven't seen one of those over NI for nearly 18 months, they always seem to take more southerly tracks now.

    Extra Dublin flight this week.

    http://www.flightradar24.com/faq
Why is the route information not correct?
The route is not transmitted from the aircraft. Flightradar24 is using the callsign of the flight and compare it with big databases of airline and airport schedules to find the matching flight number. With the flight number we can find out and show the route of the flight. There are many reasons why a route can be incorrect for example changed flight plans for some reason, wrong or old callsign typed in to the transponder, error in some of the schedule databases, long delay of flight which makes the schedule data match against wrong flight or some other matching problem.

Most of that FAQ entry relates to the old static routes database and is now out-of-date.

About six months ago FR24 introduced a new 'heuristic' algorithm that attempts to learn routes as they occur. It uses aircraft vertical profiles and flightpaths to 'guess' the origin and destination airports and to build-up a history of a route before it is accepted as 'valid'.

Unfortunately this often goes awry, for example if an aircraft approaches or departs over another airfield. Or makes a diversion on more than one occasion. You'll also occasionally see recently closed airfields listed because it hasn't been 'told' that they are no longer in operation. It also means that for the first few occurrences of a new route it may not have a destination listed.

Attached example of what can happen, a route that has been flown for more than a decade; Stansted to Belfast as TAY834V.

In this case the algorithm became confused due to the departure profile and discarded the previous route information, believing that the route had changed and originated at Biggin Hill...

Manual submissions to correct routes are no longer accepted, we just have to live with the quirks.

Atlantic Flight Training Academy's Piper Seneca (EI CMT) flying over Shannon now. Haven't seen them show up on fr24 before.

Probably due to a loss in ADS-B signal. Its a common occurrence especially around take-offs and landings.

I believe most EJets don't even have ADS-B.

AF165 squaking 7700 abeam Munich. A 777 from Bangkok to Paris. Although FR says it came from Vienna. Decending at quite a rate to get into Munich as it was very close when it started.

EDIT: Seems to have arrived in Munich but is frozen on FR24. Looks like it had stopped in Vienna also alright for some reason.

The three New York airports have most flights cancelled at this stage with very few taking off and landing atm. Within 3 hours they will be closed.

Did all the Irish bound aircraft get out? Or are they likely too?

The 2 Shamrocks 104/108 are both canx, the 109 didn't even leave DUB to head over, not sure about the 105
