the doom and gloom over our result last night has been seriously lifted today.

its a cup that we need to be aiming to win now.

Liverpool already have it wrapped up and on Merseyside.

I'd strongly fancy Arsenal to defend the cup now.

Southampton out is not good news for Utd.

I'd argue it is. You realise it's a knockout competition with an open draw format?

Liverpool vs united final seens destined for gerards last match the way this is panning out

If Liverpool beat Utd in a cup final for Gerrard's birthday send off there will officially be no God as far as I'm concerned.

No self respecting divine being would allow such a thing to happen..

He's talking about the league. They'll have less games if we get through the next round.

i disagree. i dont think they will finish top 4 and they have liverpool (h), Chelsea (a) Spurs (h) and City (a) to play - its in our best interests for them to do well between here and end of the season, especially in those games.
we are finished with them and dropped 3 points to them so ideally the other clubs will drop a few points there to them which would help us alot.

You have to laugh at the posters moaning about those being delighted with the way the results went today. I mean, way to miss the point completely.

I'd say they are great fun at parties. :pac:

Incredible set of results today which is hugely favourable for Utd.

Bebe played full 90 minutes for Cordoba today against Real and had a right decent game.

ya its shocking alright but the draws have been extremely difficult in those years and we got f*ck all luck.

lost 2 finals, should have won both, the arsenal game in 05 was one of the most frustrating days ever to be a united fan.

lost in the semi to Everton and City, should have won against Pompy in 2008 but fluffed it.

overall in this timeframe, weve been beaten by -
    Arsenal once (final)
    Chelsea twice (final, away)
    Liverpool twice (away twice)
    City (semi)
    Everton (semi)
    Portsmouth (quarter at home)
    Leeds (3rd round)
    Boro (4th round)

weve also beaten Arsenal twice, Liverpool,Spurs, City and practically every other PL team in this timeframe, but ultimately won feck all.

It's a hard cúnt of a thing to win - especially negotiating through the earlier rounds - the "lesser" teams play out of their skins against the big teams .. It's their CL final.

Ya how we lost the 05 Cup final I will never know. Played so well that day.

Leeds was the most embarrassing of those defeats.

That Portsmouth semifinal defeat was hard to take, with Championship side Cardiff to play in the final we really should have had another treble.

I think of all of them, Everton in 09 hurt the most. Why Fergie rested all those players when there was a potential sextuplet to be won. With a full-strength side, we would have strolled past Everton.

dunno, two replays to come involving united and liverpool, and assuming they get through, still United, Arsenal and Liverpool remaining. they can only show 3 or 4 games live anyway so as long as those 3 avoid each other, they have their fill for the next 2 or 3 rounds.

a United v Liverpool final would be the game of dreams for them.

That was the one lost because of the clear penalty not given wasn't it?

PL Big boys v Big Boys is what rakes in the mula for them .. They pay big money for the rights so they will be distraught with Chelsea, Southamption, City etc. going out - smaller ties involving championship teams won't be watch by any near a United v Chelsea QF/SF would be.. Not by half or more probably.
