So atheists cut down a cross and Christians are stealing a statue?

So far there is little evidence of both.
(That athesitscut down the cross, and Christains stole the Statue)

Probably college students using it for beer pong.

Rumour has it that the local council organised this to get the town in the news, it'll be "found" soon enough. Heard it here first.

No evidence as to who did this. Pure supposition OP, pure supposition.

A cross found on the scene, it doesnt mean it is definitely Christians but they would be the prime suspects. The muslims and atheists havent said they opposed such action so we can assume they agree with it and probably helped out.

"A 5ft cross emblazoned with 'Thou Shalt Not Have False Gods Before Me' was left behind after the thieves took an angle grinder to the steel frame of the statue of Manannán Mac Lir."

    Probably wasn't Christians so.

Or maybe read the actual story before posting?

So maybe contact the PSNI with your evidence of who did it then.

    It's a nothing story anyway.

    God botherers versus no-god botherers.
All basement dwellers in any case.

I blame the aliens, probably arrived here illegally anyway.

It was a publicly commissioned statue which makes this an act of vandalism and theft. I'm not going to sit here and blame any groups but I hope whoever did it is caught and dealt with and that the statue will be re-instated.

I feel sorry for the artist.
"I'm very disturbed by this," Mr Sutton said. "It's unreal."

"Some statues are stolen for their bronze. But this was cut down at the base and the materials would not have been worth stealing."

"I made it out of clay first and then a silicone mould, before I cast it. It took me months and months to make and five or six men to carry it up there and install it."

My initial suspicion too but it was made from materials that of themselves were commercially worthless, apparently.

Poor form from whoever did it. Hopefully it turns up and can be restored.

If it took 5 or 6 men to carry it up there in the first place, I wonder how many knuckledraggers were needed to carry it down again?

They never even suspected it was the secretive clique known as the AH boardies. The motivations was apparently there was a deart of anti-religious news stories for them to pontificate on.

I wouldn't want to be on a ferry anytime soon with any of those "Celtic Sea God" statue defilers...

Would it be easy to remake if the artist still had the mould? I hope they catch the vandals and make them pay for it

I think it's probably jumping the gun to claim it was Christian extremists but if it was, I wonder if it's connected to the incident in which the ancient stone artifact at the Hill of Tara that was damaged by vandals last year. There's been a few incidents like these over the past few years and I know some of those sites attract certain cult/ religious types from America and elsewhere.

Maybe I'm jumping the gun too and need to post this in the conspiracy forum instead :)

Take your head out of your ass, it's obvious it was Christian fundamentalists.

Take your head out of your ass, it's obvious it was Christian fundamentalists.

All the evidence points towards it. And there's no reason to think anyone else did it. And it's not like there aren't enough crazy religious people up there.

yet some people think that someone is trying to frame crazy christian fundamentalists. Because obviously it can't have been the work of crazy people who take their religion too seriously.

I think it's probably jumping the gun to claim it was Christian extremists but...

Did you read the article? They replaced it with a Cross and the slogan "thou shalt not have false gods before me"...

I can't think of another agenda tbh

It does highlight the ever widening gap between Northern Ireland and the Republic though.

NI : pagan statue stolen by someone demanding a more religious state.

ROI : Cross cut down by someone demanding a a less religious state.

They're increasingly very different places one becoming much more like the rest of Northern Europe the other becoming much more like the US bible belt.

    I'm just observing. Not judging.
