    Go back to bed grandpa.

I was going to follow it up with a punch line about Palace fans but then I remembered the charter and stuff. :D

I was never big on Welbeck and IMO he will never become a top striker. His movement and work rate is great but his finishing is very poor.

He has been playing the same way he played for us. Grand. Missed a few chances. Just the usual Welbeck.

I'm a big meh on him leaving. He wanted out.

Wouldnt you want out if you were a starting international who was finishing well when played up top in a run of games (he also proved this when moyes played him up top over xmas in 2013 when RVP was injured and scored plenty) then Falcao is brought in, would you want to sit on the bench at 24 ? when you know the manager is dutch and his captain is RVP and you'll never get a look in.

There is wanting out and there is logical common sense.

He's played well for Arsenal, IMO, especially when you factor in the fact that he's at a new club with a new way of playing with new players as apposed a club he's been at for 15 years in united.. he's been better for Arsenal than RVP has been for us this season. For the first 3 months RVP may as well not have been on the pitch.

All I'm getting at is that I'd have rather kept wellbeck, have Rooney up top and spent the money that we paid for RVP on a proven quality centre back or 2. Our team would be in a much better place now instead of purchasing fire power after fire power without addressing the spine of the team.

they have played nearly the same amount of games in the league this season and RvP has scored twice as many goals and could not be argued rvpis on form.

without signing rvp i'd say we would still be on title no 19. rooney needed proper competition which he wasnt getting from berba, welbeck and hernandez as none of them were good enough to dislodge him from the starting 11.

if he was good enough he would be able to get ahead of any of them he was not end of

This Welbeck debates go no where good.

    They all end the same.

There is pros and cons to him leaving. We upgraded Welbeck with falcao.
If Welbeck was good enough he would e starting.

    There is no Dutch conspiracy.

    Welbeck was no great loss.

He'll improve at Arsenal but not enough for them, or us obviously.

He was a loss, but not a great one agreed.

    Wish him well though!

Isn't it mad to think that everyone in that photo is probably dead by now?

unless Cantona has been knocking them off in some weird but fascinating anti-hero Serial killer fashion !,I suspect the vast majority of them are all alive and well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,689 ✭✭✭sky88

Wellbeck wasn't a big loss imo hes just not a good enough finishing. hes only got 1 more goal in the league then falcao and hes played more games and minutes with the majority of it coming as the main striker for arsenal.

I remember having a debate on Danny practically 2 years ago. I was not convinced by him, felt he would not make it.

The Real games especially at home showed me what he could offer. I still questioned him pretty much for rest of his time at club, but looking back I do think it was a mistake to get rid of him.

His pace and his awareness of how to press is very impressive. I also liked his attitude especially last season. While he would frustrate the life out of me, I could never question his effort.

I was little blinded by stupidly trying to match him to Rooney's etc when that's not how I should have looked at him, more of a decent backup.

    So ya, I was wrong(ish), kinda ;)

2 years ago he was a full England International playing for Manchester United, he already had made it

That's not what he's saying though. He's saying he wasn't convinced he would make it at United and he didn't.

Also, Jimmy bullard has England caps.

    no he doesn't!!

welbeck did make it at united 149 games for the first team but van gaal didn't want him and sold for 16m

Anyone else think that Januzaj could be quite effective in that pacy winger playing as a striker roll that LVG is adopting, ie Di Maria in the Robben role.

The young lad isn't getting a look in lately.

Jayzuz I pray we don't see Di Maria up front tonight. While I don't agree with it I can see the logic behind the 3 at the back but for the life of me I can't make sense of ADM as a striker with his back to goal

My mistake. I remember him being called up and I assumed he played for Capello.

I still wouldn't call that making it at United. He never established himself as first choice and was mostly played out of position because he couldn't get in ahead of Rooney and RVP.

I'm talking top level like at United

Not every player who has played for England is super duper.

    but welbeck did make it!!

if playing and scoring in a European cup game away to real Madrid is not making the grade at united, nothing is

People need to re-reads Mitchs post, especially the part where he said that Welbeck could fill the role that Van Gall has asked Di Maria to do(and the same when picking Wilson ahead of Falcao) add pace to the attack. He most certainly would have done that.

My opinion is it was a mistake to let him go either way but even for that reason alone it would have been good to have him in the squad.

One swallow does not make a summer.

Yes, technically he 'made' up. Going to the next level and being able to be relied on he did not.

Danny Welbeck scored one league goal in the 2012-2013 title winning season, you can debate the fact that he was played out of position but one goal for a forward thinking player in a title winning team is a shocking record, the guy just doesnt cut it in front of goal. It was a great day when he was shipped out.

he played on the left and contributed greatly that season...

Antonio Valencia only scored 1 goal that campaign as well

just for comparison iniesta only scored 3 league goals for barca that season as well....

not all about the goals, its about contribution to the team which he played a huge part

Valencia is not a striker though! Welbeck is, even if he was playing wide left, his goal return was shocking.

who says welbeck is a striker? he is clearly not, he is a winger/forward

If you are gonna compare Welbeck to Valencia and try make it seem good, we should just leave it there.
