I went on this website recently, scrolled down about 10 articles and could not find one that was remotely interesting, seems like a hybrid of government propaganda and x factor type emoting..the only bit I like is the comments bit at the end. Real lowest common denominator stuff. Anyone else agree?

My opinion is that it seems fashionable to dislike the journal. Dont see to much wrong with it my self, there is a hell of a lot worse out there..

Do not read the comments section. It is bad for your health.

You will find the same people, spouting the same sh*te, again and again no matter what the story is.

I dislike it for the lack of journalism, it's just copying and pasting

Bit like here then. As Irish news sites go its probably the best even if half the articles are written like they were done by 12 year olds or are cringeworthy clickbait.

I like it. I know it's not ground breaking journalism or anything, but apart from the lunatics you see in the comments section, the actual articles are fine.

Some of the writers are very witty too in the Daily Edge section, I enjoy it for a bit of light reading.

I'd certainly rather be reading The Journal than the Sunday Independent. Now that's a rag.

You cant comment if its not linked from facebook or twitter so its another leg of social media

Quite enjoy the daily edge myself. Makes the morning commute a little less horrible.

How is the Sunday Independent a rag?

I and many others dislike it because its articles are sh1t-stirring, designed to rile up idiots.
And said idiots post comments that would make you despair for humanity.

Nothing to do with a fashion/bandwagon. I liked it at the start. I don't think it was aiming for the direction it ended up going in.

To be fair we are not pretending to be journalists or beacons of truth and knowledge.

AH is more like a den of delinquents. Bit like Fernando's hideaway.

We chat, debate, mock, bemuzed rage, over huge number of nonsense, bizzare, and strange threads. E.g. 'I found a safe'

Today I read a headline on the independent says Katherine thomas is proud of leo varadkar for coming out as gay...I mean seriously who gives a flying fook.

Yeah for "reals" is that even a word? What is so bad about the Sunday Independant or does it make you look cool for saying its shíte now?

Barry Egan, Brendan O Connor, Niamh horan
I could go on but I think that alone is enough

Are you Niamh Horan? It's a fcuking rag, and that's a very popular opinion.

Yeah, we are all newspaper snobs.

I read a paper that nobody's heard of yet.

It doesn't have Barry Egan, Gerard Kean, Lisa whateverherfcukingnameis...

Really? Because of the idiotic nonsensical sensational dribble that comes out of its vacuous journos dribble holes every week.

    Gutter rag at its worst.

Its problem is the its "journalists", write literally anything. Where as the Irish times has economist journalist that only talk about economics related topics. They arent going to talking about Davos in Switzerland and the next day discussing abortion like in the journal.

Unlike the huffingtonpost.com which gets some amazing people to write for it. The journal doesnt get these powerful individuals, who instead give their articles to the Irish Times. Which actually investigates real issues

Name one better irish news site? It is moderated to a degree, tbf Boards is heavily censored which isnt ideal either.

I liken the comments to some of the ones you see on FB, and you tube. It seems alot of people subscribe to these pages just to try and be contraversal.

As for the fasion statement, i'm sure theres plenty who say they dislike it, but cant or wont say why, hence my original comment.

20 things Irish mammies say, Remember World Cup 1990, Can you believe 'The Snapper' is so many years old...blah blah blah, old sweets you can't get anymore, crazy cereals from around the World.

    That's why I don't like it. See also Joe(Conor McGregor is God).ie

The comments on the journal are no worse than the ones on The Independents website. In fact at least they make sense and people aent afraid to put their names behind them, they also arent heavily censored.
