Really impressed with Rojo, it's nice to have another physical defender there again, ala Vidic. Also our best ball playing CB by a long shot. Someone mentioned it here yesterday but if we continue with 3 at the back, I'd like to see Carrick in the centre between Rojo and Jones, then pushing into the midfield when we attack. Obviously if we don't buy a CB, but all reports seem to suggest we'll go all out for Hummels, but in the summer.

Would you be happy with signing Hummels, given his injury record?

Wouldn't be as worried about 3-5-2 if we were playing it as Liverpool are playing their 3-4-3. But more often than not we're playing 5-3-2. Because our full backs are so deep when we get the ball. As for Van Gaal saying we conceded more goals - its only by the grace of God (Dave) that we didn't concede far more at Arsenal and Southampton for example when playing 3-5-2.

Starting to believe its just stubborness at this stage to refuse budging until the end of season.

I don't know. I don't believe it anyways as they have better CMs and have money to buy better CMs.

It is the same for every club. there is an embargoed part of the press conference to protect the written press. Nothing to do with MUTV

According to a few of the United regular attendees, they normally would share some key points via Twitter, but their is a ban on that. The embargo is until 11pm and according to them it's something to do with exclusivity with MUTV.

either or, seems to be a total lack of full press conferences last while, all these little snippets.

Ì should be working but I am watching Ronaldo's goals on MUTV.

Really shows what we need right now. Hopefully Falcao starts putting his chances away.

I don't think its all that bad tbh, only the last two seasons he's been slightly more games than before. But I can't shake the feeling no matter who we buy, he'll be injured within a few weeks. Like every summer signing we've made have all been out for lengthy spells. And arguably only Falcao had serious injury issues previously out of all of them.

I'd prefer the formation to change and players to be played in the right positions firstly, before throwing more money at the problem.

A Nani type of player would be fantastic right now. The ability to produce a good cross or pass with minimal space or being crowded is something only really Di Maria can do from wide positions in the team right now and him playing central so far up the field stops him getting into those positions. Would improve Falcao a lot imo.

Mata has the technique but not quite the pace to take a man on and get the yard of space from and Januzaj is the opposite with his lack of end product.

Really in need of another winger...

    Sky Sports:
West Brom manager Tony Pulis confirms the clubs are chasing Manchester United’s Darren Fletcher and Wigan’s Callum McManaman.

“Darren (Fletcher) is talking to three or four clubs and hell make his decision when it’s right for him to make a decision,” he said. “We showed an interest and I think other clubs have shown an interest and the kid has got to sit down and make a decision. We’ve got to wait and see.”

On McManaman, he added: “We’re exploring the situation of whether or not we can bring him in or not, and whether it’s a good deal for us or not. It’s got to be right for everybody and both clubs have got to agree. It’s also got to be right for the player as well.”

Don't think we'll get top 4 if we stick with the same formation, Van Gaal would only have himself to blame and he would surely be let go at the end of the season

Criminal not getting top 4 with the squad we have

His injury record is a bit worse than Evans's.

Looking at the new signings' injury records on transfermarkt I don't see too much of an increase since they came to the club.

    I agree.

If LVG doesn't make top four after the cash he splashed he'll be a bigger failure at UTD then Moyes was and be show the door. Rightly so.

Previously I was confident we'd make it but with LVG's 5-3-2 persistence I'm less confident.

If LVG intends to stick with this rancid 352/532 formation, I hope to fcuk he stops playing Rooney in midfield. I'd nearly rather he left one of RVP/Faclao go and play Rooney up top where he is at his best IMO.

I'm worried about our chances of getting top 4 now :(

He has been given massive financial support and complete backing by the club. If we miss out and LVG gets the road the blame will lie 100% at his feet.

If we play 3-5-2 against a side in mid-table 3 divisions below us, you've got to seriously question where Van Gaals head is at. Our defenders have looked like they've lacked confidence but their playing under a manager who has ZERO faith in them even against mediocre and poor opposition.

Hummels has played between 30 and 40 odd games in the last 5 seasons (excluding this one), not nearly as bad as Evans, never mind worse.

Evans would have been fit but not selected for many games over the past few seasons. I'd imagine his injury record is similar to Hummel's.

I'm one of the biggest Moyes apologists but getting rid of LVG after one season no matter how badly he has or will do would be far a far worse decision after seeing what sacking Moyes and spunking a bunch of cash expecting immediate results has achieved. I suppose it'd buy Valencia another 2 or 3 years in the team though

Pleased to see Fletcher is considering a move. Won't get first team football with us and unfortunately his illness crippled his chances as he was really making an impact. Still would do a great job for another team in the premier league.

yea if he starts a back 3 tomorrow night serious questions need to be asked about where he is taking the team.

Young 22 year old Greek defender papadopolous could be a good investment rather than chasing hummels.

If we got solid defenders I would be happy tbh no need to break bank imo

Meh. A few (some pointless) stats and facts mixed in with nice language. Nothing overly insightful on Rojo.

would be sad to see fletcher go, but its the right thing to do, he is on big money and no longer at the level needed. can still do a great job however for teams like WBA.

slowly but surely the heartbeat of Fergies team that won us so much success is going and is almost gone and the days of having a squad full of players we have developed or bought young are also coming to an end.

apart from Wilson, i cant see any of the current crop making a big impact on the first team, Blackett and Mcnair could be gone pretty soon.

i wonder how long more our record of having an academy player in our squad (its about 80 years) will last?

we are also only an injury or two away from having no England players in our starting line up, something that would have been unheard of in recent years especially seen as 6 English men started the CL win in 2008.

Actually read this last week, a decent read, but as you say, how long will it last with the way we are moving in the transfer market.
3724 matches is an unbelievable record

I can't agree with that mentality.

Just because Moyes was a failure doesn't mean LVG can't be a failure as well.
