    Pro.F confuses me no end.

I sometimes get the image of him like a Roman Senator in the stands, and players come out into the arena, do a few juggles and tricks and stuff, and look on anxiously awaiting for the seal of approval.

Good crossing and shooting doesn't make up for a lack of control for a central midfielder, just like good control doesn't make up for a lack of shooting ability from a striker. I think it is unnecessarily awkward to insist on giving credit for all technical abilities when pointing out that a player is lacking in the important ones for their position.

True, but to call him a technically limited midfielder is a bit harsh, im not sure if his control is as average as you make it out to be but ill keep an eye on it over the second half of the season.

carrick is a top class centre midfield player end of, sure any player that is pressed quickly upon receiving the ball will always struggle a bit even the likes of xavi. Look what Bayern did to them 7-0 agg when they pressed high, or what Madrid have done when they pressed high

oh look, its leon britton v Chelsea this weekend. another chance to see "how the best dm in England" copes against a quality side

What Carrick has that Blind doesn't, apart from a more natural instinct to take up the correct defensive position, is his subtle but extremely affective knack of knocking the ball off the opposition. He's not a guy to go in with a crunching tackle or a sliding tackle but, running alongside or covering an opponent more often than not wil stick his foot in and literally knick the ball to win possession back. It's invaluable to the team and I'd be fairly confident Utds possession stats have gone up quite a bit since he returned from injury.

Don't really agree with you guys, with the forwards we have we should have a lot more mobile midfield willing to release the forwards quicker. I suppose United have other problems in that our central players are putting the ball out wide but our wingers are pants.

I do think that's our biggest problem at the moment; Rooney especially slows down play when acting as a midfielder and then just bombs it out wide to the wingers. If the defenders don't read the ball (and due to the lenght of the passes, they often can), then the wingers who get it are useless and can't do anything.

I thought we looked really good using Di Maria and Herrera as the wide players in the midfield diamond. They are mobile, have pace and can pick a pass. They can pull out wide and bomb down the wing if needed or let the wingbacks overlap them so it's a 2v2 down the sides rather than 2v1.

As I said before, imo he has been the best over the last few years, but he's now 32 and coming back from a serious knee injury that kept him out for half the season. So he may never get back to his former self. Not that it really matters, because even if he did play well I'm sure you wouldn't notice.

Saying "sure every player will struggle a bit when pressed" is a cop out. There is obviously a range of how well players can handle being pressed.

Rooney is a crap midfielder. As you said he just plays it wide all the time as if he thinks he's Scholes. He should be up front where he belongs!

Think Blind has been our best signing this season. Di Maria and Falcao, amazing players, haven't been as good as they probably want to have been but Blind always puts in a performance. Was out for a month or two and came back in last week and didn't put a foot wrong. Really underrated player and probably one of our most intelligent.

Him and Rojo both very very good signings I think.

I'm going to make an odd comparison on Blind here but bare with me. Blind reminds me of Philip Lahm when he plays...woooaaaahh Irishcrx did you just compare Blind with Lahm?...yes...did I see he's as good...no...not yet anyway...

Every manager that has worked with Lahm has said the same thing about him , he's an exceptionally intelligent player and person who's tactical understanding is second to none, he reads the game brilliantly , trains excellent and is always solid.

I'd say the exact same of Blind , as has Van Gaal and other managers. Given 2-3 years in the premiership I think he could be that good , he can play as a LB , LWB , DM , CM again much like Lahm and although better in some positions than others he always does a job.

I agree, Blind has been maybe not our most high profile signing this season but I think he's the best signing.

reminds me of carrick who we have and have managers(like the greatest manager of all time fergie) and managers like arsene wenger who say he is one of the best technical midfielders in europe....

LVG trying to justify the 5212 by pointing to how many chances we had against Spurs

I think Spurs' widemen either didn't know who to mark or just didn't put in the effort required against wingbacks in the first half and that led to us being comfortable in their half

The amount of bad games we've either side of that game tells me it was an anomaly and nothing more

Have you been watching him this season Pro.F? He was absolutely destroyed when Swansea lost 4-1 to Liverpool a couple weeks ago. Their midfield was embarrassingly bad that day. Britton got hooked after an hour and it needed to be done.

Is it too much to ask for the right team, in the right formation, playing lovely football and we come away from Loftus Road with 5-0 win and De Gea falls asleep after 60 minutes cause he is a bored.

    Is that asking too much?

We have had a few decent games since then, not many but a few.

I reckon its about 20 years since we lost to them. Think Les Ferdinand got cracker same day.

I did see that game. Shelvey (and to a much lesser extent Routledge) was the problem with Swansea's midfield, he was all over the place. Britton was left chasing shadows all night. The substitution was just like in Britton's previous three games; necessitated by the fact that he was coming back from serious injury that had kept him out for half the season.

and due to the fact that he was rubbish.

Leon Britton is at best a decent championship player. he hasnt even a single champions league appearance or has never even gotten a single england cap

Bangok wouldn't notice just like no manager or scout ever noticed because he is an average player at best.

You disagree and think that my idea is daft. I get it. Now why not just shut up about it instead of repeating yourself every single time there's an opportunity?

Brendan Rodgers thought Gerrard could do Pirlo's job.
