Why do you support an English soccer team? Seems bizarre given your clearly strong anti-british sentiments.

I don't see Manchester United as representative of Britain. They are a professional sports franchise, a multinational organisation who happen to based in Manchester. Their geographical location has nothing to do with my support for them.

I could just as easily support Real Madrid or Bayern Munich if I wanted.

Because I don't support Real Madrid, doesn't mean I have anything against the nation of Spain. If I was to support Bayern Munich that doesn't necessarily mean I endorse the nation of Germany, Does it?

It doesn't make any difference it's an English club. How many on the Galway united team are from Galway?

A team whose home ground is in England. Are you seriously saying that Man United aren't an English club?

Are McDonalds an Irish company because that have restaurants here?? They may compete in the English League, but they are far from English clubs now.

I accept it's a brand/club based in England - I'm simply pointing out its transnational nature. The same could be said for many clubs/brands around Europe.

    I haven't a clue.

You lads should pop along to the Stretford End and tell the fella beside you Manchester United isnt an English club, then count the seconds before you get a slap. Bleedin clowns.

It'd make more sense to support an Irish team? Just doesn't tally why someone who has such a vehement dislike of all things English likes to spend his Saturdays cheering on an English team, playing an English sport in an English league.

Not really. They are a professional sport team. Not representative of the country in which they are based. Its a business partly owned by Americans/party by multiple international investors floated on the New York stock exchange.

Containing players from Brazil, Argentina, Spain, Colombia, Belgium, Denmark, Holland, Ecuador, Scotland ,England, Northern Ireland and Switzerland

And no doubt claiming "we are the best team in the world"

The little mental webs they weave to fit in with their world view. Paddy Barnes isnt Irish, Manchester United arent English. Its fascinating what people can convince themselves of. And a bit pathetic.

Why didn't he box for Britain at the Olympics then if he's a member of the British empire? Those Olympic medals for a foreign country (Ireland) are now tainted, He never won anything at world championship level,

He will never win anything at professional level

Would't last 5 sec in the ring with Roman Gonzalez

I wonder would the British disown McIlroy for accepting the RTE sports personality of the year award. It is absolutely pathetic that people in Ireland still feel this way about these sort of situations.

I have no problem with anything English. But I do have a problem with an ungrateful little bastard from county Antrim who was quite happy to use the IABA resources, wear the green jersey and stand under the tri-colour.

Then turns around and accepts Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire.

Britain can have the ****ing traitor

Thankfully you don't get to speak for the rest of the country. I'm cringing at every post you've made.

There is nothing like coming across the Republican English premiership fan in the wild. Truly a remarkable specimen.

Don't get me started on McIlroy. If you are going to be a traitor at least stick with the side you betrayed your country for, McIlroy wants to be a member of the British empire, then wants to rep for Ireland in the Olympics?

If you are going to turn your back, at least keep it turned.

I never realised there was a "Rep of Ireland" Olympic team.

Bollox. Another clueless plastic who understands nothing about the club they supposedly support. You should travel with United's away support and share your republican views, they'd especially love that.

This thread has delivered. I hope the Queen hands out a few titles to Ulster GAA players in her Birthday list next Summer so we can do it again.

Maybe the former Baron of the Manor of Northstead should accept a gong, in the interests of the peace process?

Wait is this thread to bash "plastic" Man U fans? Or is it to for Brits to bash the Irish?

The way most of you go on. You would rather Ireland abandon all nationality, Fly the union jack, sing God save the Queen?

Why not? You obviously don't care about Ireland, Being Irish means nothing to you. Why not just be British right?

Who cares about the people who died fighting for Irish independence, that was all just a good laugh. Right?

Man United might well be an English club, but its common knowledge to the whole of England that Man United fans have some of the most anti-English fans you can get, many of which are not loyal to England.

He plays on the left, he plays on the riiiiiiiight, that boy Ronaldo makes England look sh1te!

Man United/Liverpool fans are not well liked within parts of England often accused for their lack of patriotism to the national team, well known to clubs like Chelsea, West Ham etc. A lot of England fans tend to come from places like Basingstoke, Guildford etc.
