Okay, I am sure there is an answer for this somewhere on Boards, so forgive me, but -

I have a car declared on SORD until March 2015. I'd like to get it on the road sooner, though - tomorrow. Can I just rock up to a tax office and tax it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,294 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

    Yes.
    Except they'll be closed.

Not certain, but I'm under the impression the online system isn't clever enough to know that the car is SORD'd

Are motor tax offices closed till Monday?

Nope. At least some are open Friday.

Dad is gone up there now as he wouldn't listen to me and said they must be open. He's also annoyed because his log book came today and there was more letters wrong in the name than there was right actually the way they spelled it I'm fairly sure no one has that name.

Ah he just missed it. The tax is out the end of December so today. Hopefully they will let him tax it on Friday even though his name and company name is all wrong although that's there fault you think they would cross check it of the vat number or realise that there is no company registered with a name spelled that way.

Lads do any of you know what is on in Dublin tonight or some good restaurants in the center?
Had some plans which ended up being cancelled so I'm thinking of bringing the wife to the big shmoke for a gander.
Not a hope I'm staying in Loughrea

No preference really, price range about 60-70e.
Thanks for the info, do you know at all if there will be fireworks this year?
I vaguely remember there being some last year.

Should get a good meal for two and a bottle of wine for about that I'm SABA if you like Thai, same goes for Red Torch Ginger.
Loads of good Italian places around for around the same money, Il Baccaro is probably my favourite Italian in Dublin.

Fireworks... Can't remember last year but if they are going, they're probably down along the quays, two wards the docks.

Dublin is buzzing on NYE, no matter where you end up there'll be good craic.

    Perfect thanks again :)
Might give the Italian place a try.
Going by car so no drinking for me but I couldn't care tbh.
Hope it's a good one and happy new years to everyone :D

Might go to the dun laoghaire fireworks. They were cool last year. Teddy's icecream shop was open too! :D

EDIT: Cancelled for this year apparently. :(

Is the following viable? Or am I talking stupid talk

Could I get an uncut flip blade key for the Mondeo off ebay, and take the chip out of one of the current keys. Would it work. And obviously get the new key cut in a locksmith.

Could that be done without needing to visit the stealer.?

If your ever up in dublin autokey are a lot cheaper than ford to supply cut and code genuine keys. The time I had my focus I got a standard spare for 50 quid odd and they supplied cut and coded it for that. For central locking key your still looking at mid 100 euro which is still a lot of money I suppose it depends if you want remote CL.

See I already have two keys for it, which are both like this (blade is different)

    http://www.ebay.ie/itm/FORD-MONDEO-FOCUS-FIESTA-PUMA-ETC-98AG15K601AB-3BUTON-REMOTE-ALARM-UNCUT-KEY-FOB-/231437675323?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item35e2c2ab3b

What I want, is to replace one of the keys for one of these, because, you know, they're cool :pac:

    http://www.ebay.ie/itm/FORD-FOCUS-ST-GALAXY-S-MAX-MONDEO-ETC-3-BUTTON-REMOTE-ALARM-UNCUT-FLIP-KEY-FOB-/231436666940?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item35e2b3483c

What I'm trying to get at is essentially could I break up one of the existing keys and use the chip and what not in the "new" key.

This kind of answers my question for me

Actually Noccy, your key looks much easier to convert. The transponder chip looks more exposed. Mine was buried. The hardest part is trying to put the new unit together, getting the spring to sit properly etc. Definitely worth a shot
