Flown Ryanair recently? Bad enough the security, queueing, bag checks, etc before taking your seat then having to listen to that f**king awful "Chillax with a refreshing J2O" ad.

    "Chillax" :mad:

Jesus, haven't flown with Ryanair in years, forgot that they did all that advertising sh1te during the flight.

There is a guy making pork scratchings in Cork, goes under the name Scratch My Pork. The Galway Bay pubs in Dublin have them. They come with hair an' all!

Hair? Are you sure that's not an 'ironic' beard?

There's no demand for it cause it's shiite

Almond Milk. Probably due to it being hardish enough to find. Nothing better than the milk from almond's tits.

It's in most supermarkets, in Cork anyway.

??? Please don't tell me that Tesco's has stopped stocking them... I love those jars.

More a medicinal thing but also tasty- Pine needle tea. Just steep a few of the needley globes from any pine tree in hot water. Tasty, 10 times the vitamin c of orange juice and free. The gourmet version adds honey, lemon and ginger and plunges it in a cafetiere.

    White asparagus.
It's not spring time for me unless there's white asparagus, but I've only ever known one place to sell it - a little fruit and veg shop in Blanchardstown.

And forest mushroom. No, not brown button mushrooms, I mean porcini and chantrelles and cauliflower mushrooms....

Sauerkraut, considering how much cabbage we have here it should be more widespread.

    Goat.

Sushi (too expensive in Ireland currently).

    Decent beer.

I'm lucky. I live near Howth. Fish is cheap here. I sometimes buy full, large sides of salmon for €5. There's also dirt cheap options like gunard.

Wouldn't have thought much salmon caught or farmed off howth- :-)
But your right about things like gurnard- herring -even haddock and hake are pretty reasonable-

Tesco do tofu, they sell it in the aisle under pies/savouries /prepared meals, Dunnes do one too, it does be among the prepared salads (i prefer there's, seems chunkier and slightly cheaper than Tesco)

    I buy about two packs a week, (wife's a vegetarian) .

    Beans.

I don´t mean fricking Heinz in tomato sauce...proper beans...in a err beans sauce.

A staple in Brazil. Goes well with rice and beef, with a salad. Basically the standard Brazilian lunch.

    Tasty and good for you.

Also, coxinha. Another Brazil staple, can get in Dublin. Kinda like a nice, less greasy, large chicken ball, but the chicken is shredded and flavoured,

    Agreed.

A once or twice a week dish in our house, can of mixed beans (Tesco and Aldi, and I'm sure others do) have tins of mixed beans on sale, very good quality and cheap, I drain them, add a de-seeded chopped chilli, salt and pepper, freshly squeezed lime juice, and a bit of chopped parsley or coriander, takes 3 mins to prepare, healthy and goes with almost any dish (i love it as a baked potato filling)

Great for next day lunch also.

    Jamaican food.

Johnny cakes. Jerk chicken. Goat/mutton curry. Rice and peas.

A Jamaican chicken curry served with rice and peas and a side salad is an experience. Puts the Indians to shame regarding flavours.

Again, it's available in at least 3 places that I'm aware of in Cork including my local SuperValu as well as various farmers market stalls and in the English market.

Main thing with White Asparagus is that you don't overcook it and it must be peeled as it's got a very bitter tasting skin and is actually a slightly different plant to the more usual green version (also dire if over cooked)

Sautéed truffles washed down with a nice vintage Pichon Lalande ...

    They're about €7000 / kg.

    Rhubarb.

Sooooooo many people don't like the stuff, but it's in my top five favourite foods. I actually salivate thinking about the stuff. I need help.

Bacon flavour Wheat Crunchies, Kraft Cheesy Pasta, Vimto (fizzy) and Limeade..

Some shops sell Barrs drinks in cans but only do the pineapplade or cream soda.. Where is the limeade?? Its amazing! (better when mixed with plain ice-cream in a blender in summer)

I just bought a 4-pack of Barr's Bubblegum soft drink. It's bubblegummy, blue, overly sweet, and evil. Yet still I want it...

My local Spar is selling it on special offer.

Tymbark fruit juice in the Polish shops. Come in 2L cartons in funny flavors. Todays aquisition: Apple and Cherry. (Nearly picked up Apple and Mint, ugh. but I'll probably get around to it). Lovley stuff.

Kebabs in Germany are second to none! Where have you seen Club Mate in ireland?

IDK, I'm seriously considering visiting the middle east purely for the food, it'd say the kebabs/shawarma/whatever equivalent there are absolutely perfect, but yeah I love the ones in Germany. Great value too, generally.

The Abbot's Ale House in Cork sells small bottles of Club Mate for €1.80.

Polish sausage is quite good, not the one prepacked from the supermarket but if you go into a Polish deli they will cut some off from a giant cord of sausage. Nice garlicky taste.

Overall, I think a lot of the food here gets a bad wrap for no reason and it is often better to look inward than go nuts over some sub standard food from Bora Bora or Vella Lavella. A good, properly made Irish stew is vastly superior to anything the Frogs or other nationalities stuck up their own back sides can make. Carrot cake over Creme Brulee all the way.

To be fair, barring maybe lunchtime at the UN general assembly where all the delegates had to bring their own packed lunch for some reason, is there anywhere on earth (never mind an entire country) where you'll find people eating Polish juice, Jamaican food, Brazilian beans, haggis, sushi, Turkish Bread, Ramen, Borsch, pork scratchings, vietnamese food, pigs ears, pine needle tea etc. all at the same time?
