What food/drinks are amazing but few people in Ireland consume?

I've recently become a big fan of lemon tea and other mad teas. Aldi has a great selection of em. I'd say they're mostly consumed by women because when I brought the subject up with a few friends they gave me a raised eyebrow. So now I drink my girly tea alone where nobody can see me. :pac:

Also, Riesen. They're in most shops but nobody ever buys them. I know this because I used to work in a shop. We ordered in a box and it took a year and a half to shift them. Beautiful, rich chewy toffee covered in dark chocolate that cracks and splinters when you bite into one.

There's a little Pakistani shop on Parnell Street (the one in Dublin before anyone asks "which Parnell Street?"). They get mad stuff in. Like Wasabi KitKat. . I'm told that asian shops do em sometimes as well. Lovely. The shop itself might be a bit off putting because it's obviously targeted at middle eastern clientele (lot of non-english signs etc...) but the staff are sound. There's a fat guy with a mustache who's always happy on the till. They also have Mountain Dew in a glass bottle that's made with proper sugar cane as opposed to high-fructose muck.

Anyone else eat stuff that most people don't but is gorgeous?

I love bacon and cabbage. Really think it could take off if people gave it a try.

Riesen are awesome. Only problem is there is only 6 in a pack.

Almond Milk. Probably due to it being hardish enough to find. Nothing better than the milk from almond's tits.

Fry's orange cream. I see it in a local shop on the odd occasion but I think it is a top chocolate bar.

I wouldn't exactly call it a tree, but beer does grow in fields.

    Fish

For an island its surprising how little fish we eat, considering the amount we export.

Actually the original chocolate cream would be an acquired taste I'd imagine. The auld lad loves them whereas I think they're rancid.

I used drink green tea daily as well. Two or three tea bags thrown into a pint flask and drink it before bed. Have stopped that ritual with the last few months. Must get back into it. Savage with some honey.

Sushi. It's too expensive here though.

Most Japanese food is expensive here, I used to spend the equivalent of a fiver in some ramen bars and get a seriously good meal. The bulk of €20 for a tonkotsu ramen in Dublin though. Still, I'm happy that I can get a decent katsudon near me, even if it is a bit pricey. but that's how it goes, what's cheap and cheerful there costs a bomb here.

A friend of mine balked at the idea of eating lamb curry once, but the thing is he'd eat a lamb dinner, like roast lamb with mash and veg, but curry? He looked positively disgusted.

Try the milk section in Dunnes. Not too hard to find there :D

Problem with lamb in a curry, there's a good chance you'll get lower quality meat. Fatty and chewy. Chicken is hard to fúck up.

Turkish bread. All sandwiches henceforth should legally be forced to use Turkish bread.

Seafood and sushi like others have said, also avocados.

Laksa too, bordering on impossible to find in Ireland at times but holy jaysus it's just amazing.

Pretty much any fresh seafood or fresh sushi (not supermarket sushi which is fine but not the same). I really miss getting fresh sushi for lunch now I'm in the sticks.

Beef jerky - love the stuff but having to buy it online as I can't find any locally in supermarkets is too much waiting about for a snack.

    Turkish delight bars

Duck - a lot of people I know seem to avoid it but I think it's very tasty

Roasted chestnuts, they can be tasty roasted in a little salt and olive oil

    avocados
Yup. Lovely, although I consume more via smoothies.

As for the OP, you're not alone in your love of herbal teas - I've gone mad for the berry flavour stuff lately. I loves my bright pink drink.

Most Tesco's around Dublin and a good few Centras have them in my experience, not mad on the stuff but it can be good to have something to chew on rather than stuffing your face with chocolate etc. Quite sure it is listed as jerky, but it might be as billtong (I think they're the same, or at least a miniscule difference?).
