If it's ok for me to mention the locked zombie thread on offside and nearside - I learned many moons ago that this was to do with horses.

I was told that offside referred to the side of the horse that you got "off" the horse. Offside.

It may be rubbish but I've never got them confused since learning this 25 years ago.

Nearsude is the side near the kerb is how I remember it.

I'm heading there next year, just looking at rental cars now. Mrs. D said ahhh maybe rent the new Uno. I looked at the crash test results...

It's a pain in the arse... the spec is horrendous on all the rental cars. Looks like I may try get a Fiesta Sedan from Movida. Who did you book through?

The Uno doesn't look bad, I saw a Sporting one yesterday with 1.4 engine. Not sure what output or tune though. In Rio and didn't pre book so have been raped. I've been here before and did think about prebooking but of course was assured we wouldn't be going out of the city except with in laws. No longer true but hey ho. Motorway road surfaces are a bit like a Connemara bog road and driving style is Italian with less consideration and more recklessness.

Seen it in the bargain alerts forum. Tom tom 5" sat nav E45, down from E115 in halfords. Extra 10% discount with promo code. Might make a handy late xmas pressie for someone :)

Great deal alright. Although you won't get the 10% of the tom tom it's the only thing in the store they won't give discount on.

Edit: your using a promo code I thought you were using an axa card.

262 for wp??? Sounds like greed. Probably buying them in for 30/40 euro.

Ahh ok. I'm heading down to RS. I've heard that about the driving alright. Priority for me was safest car I can find and full insurance. My Mrs said I'll fit in as I love using the horn. :D

I may see if I can bring a dashcam haha :P

    Devils juice or GAS!

He said fuel so I immediately took that to mean petrol.

Any place been selling daysul above 1.30 the last couple weeks is nothing to celebrate anyhow. ;)

    Halfords are selling their own brand oil 4 litre drums for 15 euro. They have the following;
    10w40
    5w40
    5w30 for opel Saab
    5w30 for ford

Is Halfords oil any good? If it meets the spec I suppose it's fine. I've always bought Castrol but I'm starting to think that the Magnatec molecules crap is just marketing.

That magnatec shyte nearly killed my car, two others here will atest to that....hopefully

I bought 5L of castrol 5w30 from micks garage, but was late getting around to them. There not open until the 29th now :(. I was hoping to get a wash and an oil change done. Bah!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,031 ✭✭✭Bpmull

Castrol edge is a serious oil very good for most modern diesels but it's very expensive 50-60 euro for 4 litres. I'd imagine the halfords oil is fine for most yokes. They don't do one that meets modern vag specs so I just buy quantum Vw own brand oil and my car is happy on that. I'd rate mobil oil high too it's good stuff.

Also very good for VVTi Toyota engines (refer to manual if it mentions A5/B5 A1/B1).

Just back from the local. It changed hands recently and I hadnt met the new gaffer yet. As soon as we walked in he looked at the head bar man who gave a nod. New owner, same staff. Complimentary Christmas pint each even though we never met the man ever. That's how you hold on to regular customers. A proper businessman.

Happy Christmas lads and lasses. Hope santa is good to ye :D
