Hi folks, looking for somebody who does gun fit using a try gun but also have a shooting ground to see you shoot.
Rang pat sludds in wexford, no problem with the try gun or to adjust a stock but no place to see you shoot.

It's Mssrs Holland & Holland you want to go and see :). Or any decent sized firearms dealer in the UK or Germany or the like.....Only in Ireland is one expected to spend a few thousand Euro without a test drive.....

To right meathstevie, the first gun you pick up they would tell you it fits you while there still on the other side of the counter.

Couldn't agree more, some dealers in Ireland in my experience look at you like you are from the moon if you ask them about fitting a gun. Shotgun fit is as important to a shotgun shooter as a zeroed scope is to the rifle shooter but I know very few game shooters who have had their guns fitted. I dunno what international shooters would think if they headed to some of our grounds and saw the "services" which these places provide, well I can but I don't want to say it I'm a proud Irishman.

If you mean that micky mouse infra red pointer thing they stick down the tube...good luck, it's nowhere near a proper try gun and clay targets.

Correct useurowname, a shoot gun is used to hit a moving target not point a red light.

Yeah, most of the guys here that are selling guns are only chancing their arms. Most of them have no professional training when it comes to fitting guns.

At the risk of being boringly repetitive I wholeheartedly recommend Pat Sludds in Enniscorthy. While he does not have shooting facilities on his premises, what he does have is huge experience of fitting guns and altering gunstocks. He has altered two for me, one for my son ( to convert a right handed gun to left hand firing by the insertion of a comb which is adjustable up and down and left to right ) and the guns of two of my shooting companions. The fit and finish of his adjustable combs needs to be seen to be believed. Additionally you will be surprised how reasonable his charges are.

In my case the alterations he made resulted in vastly improved shooting in the case of one gun and the allowed me to shoot again with an old gun I had abandoned due to poor fit in the other case.

What I'm hearing about Mr Sludds is all very positive and fair play to him but people ending up with very ill fitting guns for starters is the whole point.
Could well be that we as potential buyers aren't demanding enough either.

What he can't do,is adjust cast and that's a major problem and height of comb as well most of guns have wrong cast and are too low for people .

What do you think about a new stock, they say his good at his job and reasonable which counts a lot these days.

He can make a brand new rear stock and fit an adjustable cheek riser to either the new stock or an existing one. So there are both problems sorted. How can this be viewed as "not being able"?

Based on prices i got when i met him it'll still be cheaper than most other options, and possibly the same as altering a stock.

Did you get a stock made by him and if so how did you find it

I didn't. I was selling one stock and buying one from Pat. In the end i couldn't let the AICS go, so rang Pat, and explained.

However he took me to the workshop, showed me previous designs, took notes on my preferences, took my measurements, fitted me up with a blank stock, etc. Very professional and the price is 40%+ cheaper than anyone else.
