I've seen worse than that. Mark White of Performance Bikes magazine has a Yamaha R1 5PW completely covered with fake tiger fur:

    The engine bay :pac:

It had a leaky gasket before I bought it which was replaced when I picked it up, most of it is just the left over oil burning off the manifolds, HOWEVER my recent attempt at putting in oil last week went something like this due to the wind, need to give it a power wash soon.

I've replaced my rocker cover gasket twice now. I find that the Winter months are particularly hard on them. So it may well be that. From experience, if you're smelling it, it's a fresh leak as it burns off very quickly if all is dandy. No huge risk in driving it as is, but worth keeping an eye on! Easy enough job if it is. Only thing is that is an annoying/slow one to do, takes about 3 hours for me.

Mine has used about 2 litres for about 2300 miles, not sure if that's normal, I topped it up with Castrol 5W-30. I must power wash the manifolds and see if I can get most of it off as about 50ml or a bit more got between the engine covers. I think that's what it is at the moment. No leaks from what I can see.

Hmm. Mine uses a litre of Edge 5W-30 every 1,500 miles or so, but it's a big, lardy old Millicent. :D

I was never really ever able to see the leaks, it's most notable when driving up hill and giving it a bit of welly I found. The smell will be strong. I wouldn't bother with the power house, as I said those smells would lead me to believe a failed (or improperly installed) gasket. Never had much of a noticeable increase in oil consumption when mine was bad either.

I'll give it a hose anyway and leave it a week, if it goes away or the smell gets lighter it's probably just the excess oil on the covers/in between them. Stupid wind. After Christmas I'm going to throw it in somewhere to get a proper look over and see what the story is. Really want to sort my PDC and get a Nav/Screen head unit.

Got a few bad snaps in the local dealer today. Was the only one they had. I don't know what ye think, but at first I thought it was a focus. Doesn't really have the wow factor, not like the previous model had anyway. Bear in mind that this is a titanium spec too, even still.... Them alloys need to be bigger too IMO

Wouldn't even come close to the new passat IMO anyway.

Nothing to do with that. But for a titanium spec it doesn't seem great from the outside. I think that look suits the new focus but the pictures above just look like a slightly bigger focus and it's abit too plain from the back. There a very clear distinction between a golf and a passat as there should be. I suppose it will all come down to price passats starting at 28k so with a few toys there about 31k I don't know what the mondeo will be costing.

Titanium spec Mondeos used to look really good imo. Nice alloys, chrome bits, nice interior etc, but I agree that is a bit....meh.

Also, have my VRT appointment tomorrow....yay

I wonder is that the exact same one I saw a few months back down here in Cork, the one you photo'd has a Cork reg, but they do have a big base down here.

whatever about the alloys, the front end has more more about it that the previous design! much more aggressive looking.

Could be, there's more pics of them here, that grey one is the exact same as the one above, bar the 47/57 at the end. What's with the Cork reg's I wonder? Is that Fords main hub?

Well neither of them pictures are of the new model passat which is quite different from a jetta and golf. I can see the similarities in the older pics there but that's not what I was referring to. I think the focus mondeo looks a lot closer.

Here's a picture of the passat I can't see how that looks anyway like a new model golf or jetta.

That's a Passat that won't be seen here, 240bhp 4 motion with every single option ticked. Nice car, but you'd have a nice 5er for the cost of that!

EDIT - THE PIC HAS CHANGED

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,845 ✭✭✭Noccy_Mondy

^^ That looks mad like the old phaeton. Lord it took me longer then it should to recall that name :o

Only one on Carzone. No wonder it's not selling with the inability to rotate pics...

Granted that one is high spec but it's still ultimately going to be the same car on the outside regardless of spec only small bits and pieces will change. Not sure if they are coming with them headlights as standard I think they are.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,830 ✭✭✭✭MuppetCheck

They're LED headlights, a grand to 1700 extra depending on if you want cornering function.

We will have to wait and see what the paddy spec ones look like so :pac: still doesn't change my point it's a very different car at the front to a golf or jetta. Is the fully digital display that was in them ones coming in them all ie no physical gauges or odometer speedometer just all digital that looks fairly cool.
