Appears like a red star , very low in the sky. It's pretty much in line under Jupiter but a lot closer to the horizon. Don't think it's an airplane as it doesn't flash and it's a solid orange light. It also moves horizontally. Any ideas ?

Probably Mars. Mars has a red hue. Venus has a blueish hue.

Edit: Just went out and took a look at it with the binoculars. I don't think it's Mars. It probably had a red hue because you were looking at it when it was just above the eastern horizon i.e. atmospheric distortion of light.

    Edit 2:

    It's Jupiter I think.
Bright Jupiter from mid-evening until dawn all month. Jupiter – the second-brightest planet after Venus – rises before midnight (roughly 10 p.m. early December; 8 p.m. by the month’s end).

After it rises, it’s unmistakeable, shining as the sky’s brightest starlike object throughout the night until dawn breaks.

Has anyone noticed that the moon has a corner missing tonight? Why's that?

No , its in a transporter , a VW transporter.
Those transits aren't up to much over distance.

Boards is full of comedians, huh?

Someone mentioned a lantern and from a distance, they can appear to be a 'moving star'. Got caught out with one of them a few years ago.
