Just letting you know that some people actually run Facebook pages that generate ad revenue, some of which earn more money than a lot of people's jobs. Are these people also epic twats?

    Yes. The worst kind.

Similar thing happened to me a good few years ago OP, back when Bebo was the more popular site. Someone made an identical account to mine, started sending my girlfriend obscene messages and that kind of thing. It helps to get a whole bunch of people to report the account, not just one or two people. They probably get inundated with reports, and that's the easiest way to tell real reports from just someone trying to get their friends account deleted.

    Top contribution.

    Yes it is.

FB is an abomination. It's absolutely and totally unnecessary.

Yes, 100% people who run facebook pages for ad revenue are in deed epic twats. But we aren't talking about these people, nor are we talking about people who run businesses or charitable pages on facebook because where you are dealing with an attack on a business or charity and a resultant loss in revenue. People who use their facebooks for revenue are not 'people' but sole traders so again, its not bullying if there is an attack on them but is still illegal and something the guards would have to be called in to investigate

How so? The only people who see their content are those who have liked their pages and all it takes to stop seeing their ads/links is unliking the page.

From what I read in the OP it seems like we're talking about a Facebook page and not a profile.

Thank you...oh wait were you being sarcastic? hold on till I get upset. Going now to I check out your suggestion, I'm sure you have one. :p Also I was being serious, why read **** being written about you to get annoyed?

It doesnt matter if you do or do not read it. Others will and will have a negative opinion of you without even knowing you. Laughing about you behind your back.

Of course you will snap back with why give a **** what others think but that is not as easy as it sounds

If you conduct your life in a way that doesn't harm anyone else then I can't see why you would care what anyone thinks or says. YOU know the way you live, if others can't handle that and takes to spreading chit about you so what, you know it's not true so you shouldn't care less. Those who are true family and friends know you and how you are therefore they won't believe anything that is written on a fb page.

It's her fault OP for being on Facebook, and she's the sad one. Not the people who get a kick out of harassing her. Be sure and tell her that.

Don't feed the trolls, send message to everyone on friends list to ignore abuse. Tards will go away if not entertained.

Better yet, tell them to block the fake account as well as reporting it. On their profile page, hit the 3 dots in the bottom right of the cover photo, and select block.

The vast majority of us do conduct our lives without hurting others. People who harass others on the other hand do not. They mean to make you afraid and to threaten you. That is why they are doing it. It is the malice with which it is done. It's frightening if someone hates you enough to take the time to do that who knows where it will go. And who is to say it's about making up stuff. It often threatening you or making sleazy remarks. They want to make you feel physically unsafe. That you are not safe in your home or business. They want power. They want a reaction. They want to hurt you to claim that you should not be worried when someone intends to hurt you is disingenuous. It sounds like you are saying people should be willing victims. They want control. It sounds like you are justifying things are done that are unjustifiable. You shouldn't be worried about what people say ? It's not that what is said that is worrying it's that some other person out there wants to hurt you and is trying to.

I had one FB friend have his account hacked right before he went into rehab. When people are stressed or hurting ANYTHING hurts them whether it's true or not. It's the malice that hurts. It's the person who says you are lowly or trash that they feel they can do this. That is what is damaging.

The people who said horrible comments about Robin Williams to his daughter etc. Or people who threaten you.

If it's not remotely true you shouldn't care? It's not that anyone could think it true. It's the fact that someone has such claws out for you that is scary. Because then intend to scare you and make you think they will eventually go further. When someone aims that type of negativity at you who knows how far they will go suppose they carry out their threats?

I am obviously not talking about impersonating someone here.

Why should anyone hurt someone who has done nothing to them? That's the more reasonable question. If the things trolls said were true they wouldn't say them because the truth is so inane it's tedious. Trolls like the drama. They go out of their way to cause it.

    http://www.independent.ie/irish-news/husband-unmasked-former-ff-td-chris-andrews-after-phantom-tweets-targeted-wife-26887866.html

basically what was done was to plant an innocent looking URL which the troll will visit and that URL will harvest some information about the troll which will aid in identifying them.

I have a friend who has a page on social media (FB) and she recently banned some trolls from the page. One of these trolls has now created a page online impersonating her and basically mocking and targeting abuse at her and at the subject her page was about, including making obscene comments to some of her friends which they mistook as being from her.

    The OP.

My reply, to the OP. I don't mention being a victim at all.

You think because I say ignore some stuff wrote on a social media site is suggesting be a willing victim. I in fact look at it the opposite way. You are in control of what you wish to read on a fb page. If you chose to read something that hurts you then you are giving the power to the writer and it will continue. You don't look you won't get hurt. If someone hates you enough you say to take time to do this by you reading it, they win.

    I hate Facebook!
It's troll heaven, whilst I sympathise with anyone being bullied, people who live on Facebook deserve it at times.

Don't get me started on kids on FB
