A cyber bully has targeted my friend

I have a friend who has a page on social media (FB) and she recently banned some trolls from the page. One of these trolls has now created a page online impersonating her and basically mocking and targeting abuse at her and at the subject her page was about, including making obscene comments to some of her friends which they mistook as being from her.

I don't know who is behind it but it has effected her badly as she used to spend alot of her spare time running this facebook page and for her to be targeted by trolls like this is sickening. I wonder is there anything that can be done? This friend is quite a recluse and would be the type to take these things to heart.

Can FB do anything to get rid of this scumbaggery?

She can contact the Gardai about it and they will call to the person who set it up and give them a warning or maybe worse.

I think that's bloody genius, should be more parents more aware of what their offspring get up to online.

Tell all her friends about this bully. When eventually the bully is found out everyone can then bully the bully instead.

It could be more than one person, organised trolls often operate in groups.

I used to troll facebook a lot. What your friend did was a bad move by banning them.

Just ignore them and they go away and move on to the next

Easily traced now. Cyberbullies are found out with little effort.

if so much of your life is invested in a single site like facebook that you can even be cyber bullied then you really need to take a step back and realise you're an epic twat.

Just like people who complain about TV shows and all that nonsense, the answer really is just switch it off and, you know, go outside or something.

Neighbours teen was a Facebook troll. Bullying kids in school with fake accounts. Some girls made complaints and gardai traced it back.

He was stunned to be caught as he was using vpn & alternating daisy chains. So it seems Gardai do have resources to trace it back.

Why should she have to put up with it?

No. Two wrongs don't make a right. And why cause more hurt and unpleasantness?

Anyway she probably has no idea who they are.

She should just delete the account.

What did you do? harass people? I thought most people kept their profiles private?
Move on to the next, is that what you did? so you think its preferable to allow someone just harass people? what else is allowed slander? libel?

I have to say, besides not spending much time on FB, I dont see why people dont just name and shame and then delete these people from being contactable, if they see any comments via friends, Id have thought that it would be possible to challenge that officially or legally depending on what was said.

So what you're saying is that if you have say, a local charity page on facebook, you should ditch it at the first sign of bullying?

How could they easily trace someone who's using vpns and proxy's?

Edit: saw your reply. Interesting. Would like to learn more about stories like that. Thought Gardai only put effort into tracing online drug markets like the silk road busts.

Just letting you know that some people actually run Facebook pages that generate ad revenue, some of which earn more money than a lot of people's jobs. Are these people also epic twats?

Report the page and then tell her to stop reading it... Pretty straightforward.
