    Surely someone is in Simons ear before he decides (telling him the potential outcome after deadlock)

    I'd imagine he knew Lauren would win if it was taken to deadlock

    In all fairness, they were not good singers. Bar one of them- which isn't enough. Mel voting to keep them was definitely a tactical move.
