He has only come into the form that he should be producing week in week out in the very recent past. Doing ok is not what I expect of somebody on his wages.

Now you are changing your argument onto whether or not he justifies his wages. That's a complete shift from your original nonsense claim that he takes six or seven games before he starts producing.

Rooney and Di Maria have been our two best outfield players this season. Di Maria has only done okay as well, when you take all the games into consideration. But you are trying to pretend that Rooney has somehow been not as good as the rest of the team.
We are not going to agree anyway and I'll be dropping it here because I don't have the patience or will to argue through the night with you that others have.

Thank goodness. Pinning you down to one clear argument is tiring.

This just isn't correct. Rooney was not asked to do anything he hadn't done before, he had often played and excelled in that role in 2008 for example. To say he has always struggled out there is not accurate, we would not have been so successful in Europe were it not for some excellent contributions from Rooney playing less central.

Rooney never excelled on the wing. He never had the skills or speed to beat his man and so was very limited in what he could do when United had possession. He was only ever a hard working, but limited winger doing a job in a defensive team when he played out there.

I agree that his work rate on the wing dropped over the years, but that's hardly surprising since he was so unsuited to the position.

Rooney wasnt ****ed about by Ferguson. It was his ability that Ferguson trusted and thats why he played him out wide in a lot of the big games. And the reason he was played out there was the same reason that Valencia got so much game time on the other wing - the centre of midfield.

Ferguson just didnt trust the players he had in that position, no matter who the duo were and compensated with workhorses on the wings to give extra cover.

even when Giggs was still playing and a serious first team option, it was rare that he and Nani started on either wing because of the bloody midfield. I always thought that Valencia was played as the safe option to help supplement the poor midfield.

The fact that Fergie needed Rooney to cover the poor midfield that he had put together doesn't mean that it wasn't fúcking Rooney about by constantly changing his position.

And it wasn't just playing Rooney on the wing in big games that season. He played Rooney in CM and on the wing in games big and small.

I'd be devastated if DeGea left us :(

    Me too :(

Only positive would be that we could demand a massive fee for him and Madrid would pay it.

Won't get a massive fee if he only has 12 months left on his contract when they bid. I'm sure those dealing with his contract will have an idea of whether he's angling for a high wage or just flat out wants to leave. Hopefully it is all sorted before the new year anyways.

I think he's just played 95 games due to various injuries since he made his senior debut. For a guy who tries to portray the hard man image that is pitiful.

Likewise your one-eyed stubbornness on almost every player you argue for or against on here. Everybody is stupid except you seems to be the recurring theme...
I've equated Rooney's performances with his salary all along, it's the reason I'm as harsh on him as I am, I can still acknowledge he's a fantastic player when he is playing at his level.

You think wrong, it's over 160 appearances. Still not great though.

Surely De Gea wouldn't join Real. He's Athletico true and true. He'd be haunted in that city.

Could have been cast iron and that tackle would have coused serious damage. Horrific.

And you have your mind changed regularly when you are arguing about a player on here do you?

You are just changing your focus from the subject of the discussion to who you are arguing with because you are losing the argument.

You didn't mention Rooney's wages once in your first two posts of the discussion.

Of course you can acknowledge that he is a fantastic player when he is at his level, you just try to paint a picture where he is out of form more often than most footballers, when in fact the opposite is the case.

I disagree if his ankles were made of cast iron they would not have taken any damage.

While I think you're right on the Rooney thing you have to acknowledge that when arguing a point you give less credit to counterpoints than most relative to the rest of your posts. This might be because you feel you've already considered it but it can come across as argumentative or arrogant.

This is despite that fact I generally agree btw.

We'll get one more contract out of DDG. He's ridiculously young in goalkeeping terms and is starting to get gametime in the Spanish team so he won't be itching for a move imo.

I do acknowledge that I can be abrasive and dismissive when arguing, however I only do that when I'm responding to somebody who is arguing dishonestly (moving the goalposts, building straw men, soap boxing, etc) or when they're saying something crazy troll/rereg stuff. I don't see the need to beat about the bush in those situations and I think I'm perfectly polite and fair the rest of the time.

I know nothing of his thinking :)

I think the simplest way I can describe what I am saying is that to me he is a similar style of player to Patrick Viera, he is defensively sound of course, and reads the game well, but he is also technically quite good and carries the ball well, he rarely loses it and uses his body and commanding presence very well.

He has a good first touch and a nice burst of pace, his positioning is a strength and he presses opponents very well and I feel he will go on to be so much more then just a shield for the defence. He is becoming more comfortable venturing forward while not becoming a liability to his team by leaving them unbalanced

there isn't a big difference between the role both him and Blind play now, Carvalho gets forward more but that's more down to having more in his locker than Blind in that department, if Blind could go on a maurading run forward I'm sure he would. One of the best things I've seen about Carvalho is his cleaning up ability, to break up the play then launch a quick counter attack

I'm sure if Arsenal got him they would play him in the deepest position where Arteta usually occupies

All you need is an understanding like they have at Sporting that when one goes forward the other has to be more conservative. A midfield pairing of Carvalho and Strooman would be interesting
