In the case of the racehorse it's the only humane option open, it's terribly sad but it's a grim fact of the industry.

So would this not make some reconsider the industry?
so you want a complete cessation of the world horse racing industry

if it halts the ending of an animals life because it was being pushed to its limits in a race, then maybe yes.

It has nothing to do with the animal being pushed to its limits. Are you taking a blind bit of notice of what I'm telling you in this thread??

There are lots of faults in the racing industry, this isn't really a big one.

So then we have to euthanise all the race horses in the world as they are pretty much useless for anything else. great plan.

Can you think of anything with no danger involved?

I agree, but I don't eat horses (at least not that I know of) ,but in both situations mentioned, the death of the animal is not for human consumption purposes
No it's not for consumption but horses are domesticated animals, they have been for a long time we originally tamed them on the grass planes of central asia thousands of years ago and they were a very different animal back then. America offered a unique opportunity for feral horses (not wild anymore) to survive on their own but they wouldn't have that opportunity in an overpopulated europe. They either team up with humans or there's no place for them.
There is ample evidence that people who have a history of cruelty to animals often kill people.
I don't think there is, animal cruelty happens all the time and the majority of people don't turn into serial killers regardless of what hollywood horror films would have you believe.

that does still mean killing them. You do realise that dont you?

Euthanising a injured horse is diametrically opposite to what those sick scum did, they did what they did to cause suffering while a vet does it in a controlled manner to end suffering.

Can't believe that has to be pointed out to people, but it seems from reading the thread that it actually does.

If it is a shotgun, then there is no ballistics from pellets and catching the perpetrators may not be likely, sadly.

Big difference between your normal horse race meeting where strict standards have to be met and something like below. I think the sooner that horse tagging is brought in the better to keep track of the gobs***tes that treat horses like this.

I am absolutely shocked. It's so pointless.

most certainly not, I eat beef, chicken etc.. and always will. they are a necessity,

horses running round a field for fun is not an essential part of life imo
bred for, yes, so, again human interference with nature

So it suits you to interfere when it's bred to be put on your plate?
