I cannot for the life of me shake an itch I have for a big engined e36 coupe! Cheap as chips at the minute, I'm going to find it hard not to invest even though I know the is200 is the correct choice

What's the old saying I have about them... oh yes, you'd need an Arab in the boot, they're that thirsty :D But they were and still are a lovely looking car nonetheless, provided you can get a nice clean sport one! :)

I was talking to a Garda the other day and he said they can take a car off you for no NCT now, not something I have ever heard before, Tax yeah but NCT?

I thought this was always the case?

Sure either way as long as you're happy, but i dunno where i heard it, something like, 1 litre reliability, 2 litre tax, and 3 litre fuel consumption :pac:

I've never driven one myself but the saying often read here is :

1 litre performance, 2 litre tax and 3 litre fuel economy;-)

PS pickles have a look at the fixer upper of the day thread a poster has a cheap 95 wagon 2.3 lpt going cheap and was well looked after with sump drop done etc ..in Dundalk and driving fine safe and road worthy etc

DZ: I think you should take the car to TI's in Dublin. At this point we are all just guessing. Those guys are highly recommended on the Alfa forum and they are reasonable and extremely honest.

All you need is a 323 with a 2.8 manifold for 200+ with some other small bits, little rockets.

With the 23i I'd feel like I'm being done when it has 25i tax :(
I'd probably get a 25i and do same though.

I've seen it happen loads down here. No tax or no nct and the guard just calls a recovery truck and leaves you on the side of the road. I'd say in the last few years I've seen it happen 10 plus times where you see the gaurd there loading the car on to the truck.

Has it not always been the case that if your NCT is up and if you can't prove that you have a booking, a Garda can take the car from you? I'd think they would only do that if the car was an absolute heap and looked like a danger.

So I got the final bill today, 3.450zl which is I said roughly 850e.
Got worried for a bit as the mechanic was saying he thought the car was clocked... till I reminded him the mileage was in miles phew!
Mechanic says it's running sweet as a nut, starts in a second and no smoke.
Car in perfect condition in other respects, no leaks anywhere, suspension in perfect condition but advised on getting the ARBs done soon and not a bit of rust anywhere. Which is unusual considering it's a UK import.
Haven't paid yet but I'm looking forward to testing it now :)
Something therapeutic about knowing you've given a car the treatment it deserves :)
I'm wondering though, seeing as I've sorted Hondas main problem if I changed the oil regularly would the chain last the life of the car? I had the opinion that it was the use of irregular oil that caused the issue in the first place.

Anyone here have suggestions for a decent place to bring a learner in Dublin (preferably northside/county)?
I'm thinking off the road, large car park, early AM on the weekend sometime. Can't think of any specific place though!

Can't think of any on the north side but how about Liffey Valley? Huge space to learn a few things.

Nope, the only rule up till recently was for motor tax >2 months in arrears.
Although technically that rule was /is against the ruling that articles cannot be seized if their total value exceeds the value of the debt owing.

My Cruise Control appears to have fixed itself yesterday, still have the new switch to go in, no time at all to do it!

Went into BMW earlier to get a price on a Manual and Service Book for the car, expecting it to be around €30 or so, nope €80 pls. Era you're grand lads.

Also got a price for a new key, about €180 for the whole shebang, not sure if that's good or robbery.

I got one for €155 from them for the e60 from Conlans Rathangan. It'd be Conlans Newbridge now.

Newbridge wouldn't help me much now being in Cork to be honest :pac:

Other option is to find a specialist but I would prefer to get it done by BMW themselves.

Feck that. Do you only have 1 key? Or is one just dead? It's possible to DIY new batteries into them I thought...

BMW can be hit and miss on parts I've found, sometimes they're not too bad.

I tried it and it didn't work for me at all.
Although it was easy it just didn't fix my problem.

Foxhole - Sorry man I'm so used to everyone being from Dublin except me that i assumed :)

I have one proper remote key and one that's just for the locks/ignition, I'd like to get a second remote one made up for peace of mind.

You could get a price of autokey I got one for my focus 1/3 of the price ford wanted. They supply cut code them and all for you while you wait. Worth getting a quote of them anyway.

Edit: forgot you live in cork and not Dublin.
