I'm really surprised this thread has been allowed to remain open tbh. Usually threads like this are locked within seconds.

    shift change? :pac:

Turtyturd is pretty much spot on.
It's the same idea pretty much: serious threads, not so serious threads. Posters being dicks or being nice. All that changes is what account is being/being a dick over time.

But it has gotten more serious. Not that it's a bad thing. I think with the site getting more members and whatnot, other forums are created.

It could be worse, we could all be flirting.

I figured it out, we haven't had a gay thread in ages.

IMHO the quality has gone up. Go back 5 6 years and have a look. The vast majority of topics were two or three word titles and there was a lot more "filler". It was more jokey mind you, but that's down to its original purpose. Now it's the portal for the site and many don't want to go into more specialised forums.
I think this is the shortest post I've ever read from you :D

People just love taking the mick (I would call it something else!) out of every topic of conversation/thread posted - it definitely puts me off even putting my opinion on a thread sometimes because some people just cant handle a adult conversation - so they put the most immature remarks for reaction.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,689 ✭✭✭Tombi!

You can still give your opinion. Some people do just argue for the sake of it. But I mean you learn to spot the ones that are annoying fairly easily.
Just either put them on ignore or else just don't respond to them; you'll usually spot people you like/dislike over a few months of posting in the same type of threads.

I think boards.ie is in need of an un-moderated sub-forum.

The mods can be a bit overkill at times. Troll trolling trolls can be a great bit of craic altogether....as long as it doesn't become gross or the chonz level of sick, we should really have one.

People are too sensitive now. I remember when mods from other forums would say "this isn't after hours" whenever some witty (possibly risque) humour was used. They don't say that anymore and there's a reason for that. Leeches have sucked the fun out of After Hours by being offended at everything, and when they're not offended they are getting offended on the behalf of others.

It's a great shame, but nothing lasts forever.

I remember years ago when everything was good and nothing was rubbish.

The level of modding is far too heavy handed...it's not only suffocating all the fun out of After Hours but it's also stifling debate at this point. I can understand how other forums on this site might be in need of modding because of the subject or because they want to keep it informative but AH should be relaxed a bit....

Just saying something as ridiculous as "It's raining outside and the roads are slippy.....careful ladies"....results in infractions galore...

    Pitiful stuff really.

After Hours has lost its identity, sense of humour and most importantly its ability to not be offended by every little fiddle faddle.

I blame the politically correct social justice warrior do gooder arseholes

They're watching, like a coiled snake ready to hit the locked button in an instant, you won't even know it happened, its probably the most watched thread on boards at the moment, every other forum is unmoderated waiting to see what goes down

Pfffft, I remember when twas all green fields, walls and cows

It's bogged down and has the life and laughs sucked out of it by circular arguments and petty point scoring and nit-picking, and then there are the soapboxers and the endlessly repetitive posters, whose posts you don't even have to read any more since they're all variations on a theme. Round and round and round it goes, endlessly tedious and predictable. Particularly so in the threads just started to get some vitriol going.

When it's at it's best it's hilarious and cheers me up, and can really bring home how funny and tolerant and insightful the average Irish person is.

I'd like more of that please.

I don't give a **** about it; people care way too much about anonymous online ****e, go have a real conversation with a real person if you want to have a meaningful interaction.

And this is the one place where no one is supposed to give a ****e, surely.

(And yes, I did just call you that.)

You are only a member since march 2013, how is that years ago?

We need more threads by the likes of FeekieMcGee or whatever he was called. Trying to ride his grinds teacher. Legend.

Also bring back Flutter and his annual Christmas Log thread lol

He probably had a previous account, I'm guessing.

Did you ever consider going into the private investigation field?

I've just noticed the "misogyny" sticky at the top of AH - riding your (female) grinds teacher would surely offend our feminist overlords (overladylordies?)(overladies?)(overpersons?!)...

    My experience of this forum:

40% of people are just venting their pent-up negativity.
40% are trying their best to be funny, chasing the dopamine release they get when they see their post get thanked.
10% are genuine, pleasant, and helpful people looking for thoughtful discussion and community interaction.
