I donate to animal charities. I love the fact that they're actually grateful if you bring them in dog food or cat food, or old blankets for the animals in their care. They don't care about the money, and it's something I would always contribute towards.

I never donate to people charities unless its buying Christmas cards, or for cancer.

Charities attitudes are if you are coming to us, you must be in a bad place. Like the soup kitchen in will have the odd student looking for a free meal. But they never return as it isnt worth sitting in the middle of homeless people. Its not fair for charities to put in place restrictions that could slow giving money to people who need it, because the odd few abuse the system

Did you tell that guy he is parents are ****ing disgusting for abusing charity? I dont know how they can sleep at night abusing generosity.

Worked in a soup kitchen for a couple of months, students were refused from entering. They came down from Trinity taking the piss. Maybe it was a dare or something stupid like that. Anyway, they were sent running.

Charities should not be abused. The family in the OP's post are a joke and may very well be putting another families welfare at stake. Sickening.

Its very hard for a charity to get it right it wont stop me donating to the Svp...the thing with the student and the soup kitchens that started with the type that want to travel the world on fresh air they coped on to the fact that lots of large cites often do cheap meals for the marginalised and took advantaged of it....then again there are some very in need students.

You're spot on there with your comment that "its very hard for a charity to get it right " , people will always regale you with tales and stories of where charities were fooled or got their priorities wrong , human nature being what it is some individuals will always look for an angle to get one up on the man.

I think its heartening to hear when people say they will continue to donate charities particularly in light of recent controversies and recessionary time.

The only charities I wont donate to are those that employ chuggers, I was on Grafton st the other day and a charity was collecting and all the collectors wore hi vis vests saying volunteer collector so yes they get something.

I always give to bag packers for local football clubs, schools, scouts, baton groups and so on there is so much good work that is done and goes unnoticed.

I haven't given a penny to SDVP in 14 years. Since I found out that they pay court fines for people.
    Fr. Mcveery is the same.
Sorry but I'm not paying off offenders fines.

I went to an information evening about volunteering with the SVdP a few years ago but was turned right-off when one of the guys said how they just write cheques for pavees upon their asking.

I'm sure other people benefit from SVdP but this sickened me and I refuse to donate a single cent to them.

I have a lot of time for Fr. mcveery. He does a lot of great work throughout the city.

    Agreed, so do SVDP.
But unfortunately as long as they pay offenders fines, I won't be giving them a penny.

Yeah, fúck all the other diseases! Especially the ones that don't kill but greatly reduce quality of life! Why would THEY need money for research?

I support charities that are close to me and that mean something to me. Thankfully no other diseases have.
