Have you ever been forced to wear speedos at a swimming pool in France ?

    I have not.

    Have you?

Yes, in a holiday village near Montpellier a couple of years ago, no shorts allowed and signs up everywhere. I had rugby shorts and they were banned. When I asked about it I was told that this is the rule everywhere in the country. I have no idea if that's true or not but it's what I was told. To be honest, I didn't give a shi'ite about wearing speedos but my teenage daughter wouldn't sit near me when I was wearing them.

Don't know if it's all France but was looking at a Disneyland Paris hotel last week, had a pool and the rule was speedo's only, may be a hygiene thing

It's ben like that for over 20 years. But I used to use an outdoor pool in board shorts with no problems. But was turned back from 2 indoor pools.

It's a hygiene thing and I wish we had it here. Where I go swimming, the place is full of disgusting lads who come straight down from the gym and hop in the pool/jacuzzi wearing sweaty jocks under their football shorts

    Manky creatures

I thought for a minute "This can't really be a thing?" when I read the opening post, I'm a bit mystified at the reasons behind it tbh.

    Why?

I know that in Lourdes alright they have you wear just a small towel before they whip it off you and throw you in the pool, but what's the story with the speedos?

Do you have to wear a rubber cap too?

Do they put chlorine in the water?

Yes it's a widespread rule and it makes perfect sense. It's hot here in the summer so you have people wearing shorts all day, doing god knows what, and it'd be really unhygienic if they were to then get into a pool.
Speedos aren't pretty but I don't have a problem with the rule at all.

I would have been happy if the manufacturer just sewed their logo on more securely. The 's' came off mine and I hadn't realised. Caused quite a fuss.

This the pool near the Sequoia Lodge? I swam in that in shorts, plenty of others with shorts on too

Swimming in rugby shorts is like playing indoor soccer in a duffle coat.

    Long live proper swimming togs.

Not sure where they would be going with a hygiene argument though.

Get some togs mate and you'll get anything up to 10 secs off your 100m time.

Depends on how much drag there is in the nip

I wouldn't have had a problem with the rule when I had to years ago, if everyone in the complex wasn't riding and getting blowjobs in the pool. Really defeats the purpose! Got straight out after that!

    Where is this swimming pool?

It was a large swimming complex yoke near Stade de France, I think... or maybe not, can't remember, was with the school! :o

Unhygienic? Well, what's the point of the chlorine in the pool then?

I agree with a previous poster: French perverts... :P

One of the pools I swim at in London has a poster up at the front desk reminding people not to wear jeans or tracksuit bottoms in the pool

I'm all in favour of people having to wear proper togs, and definitely showering before they go near the pool.

Was in France almost 20 years ago, and can confirm. Apparently it's the law, but most places didn't enforce it. Except the one in the campsite where I stayed for most of my holiday...

Speedos should be mandatory for all water-based activity.

Went to France this year and there was only a handful of idiots in speedos. Nobody seemed to care.
