I once heard an Irish word, or possibly phrase, on the radio that sounded like "cunt-a-shocked"

I asked the wife, as she is Irish, but she thought I was talking nonsense. And, to be fair, I can see where she might get that idea.

    Any ideas?

Or maybe cuntasaíocht = Gaelic for accounting

Thought that the first line of Amhrán na bhFiann was - "Shiny bacon foil" (Sinne Fianna Fáil) when we were learning it at primary school

that is absolutely hilarious, it genuinely sounds like something from the Muppets.

"Ders a moos' loos' aroon the hoos "

    translates as

"there's a moose loose around the house". Apparently.

It's the way I talk. :( or should I say, spake.

    It's a dialect though, not a language.

I was expecting this to be a food thread, I am sadly disappointed :(

But off topic, I love yogurt with my Indian curry! :D

What yer man did was typical of the infantile behaviour of BOTH SIDES of the political system up here.

Last week my Mrs was talking to a guy who was governor of a state (ie not Catholic) primary school.

when Caitríona Ruane was in charge of education, they had a meeting with her about her plans to cut funding.

    she would only speak Irish.

I don't know how long the meeting was scheduled to run, but the school folks walked out because she was refusing to speak a language that anyone else in the room understood.

Completely unacceptable childish behaviour is the NORM for our politicians.

    on both sides

yep there's a time and a place to speak irish...but some sinn fein'ers up there use it just to take the p!ss just to wind the other side up

Can someone explain this to me. Is curry my yoghurt supposed to sound like go rabh mait agath?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,097 ✭✭✭Herb Powell

Flegory and the rest of them need to disappear, soon. No place for that kind of bolllocks. For all the complaining we do about the Dáil, does it ever get as bad as it often gets up north?

Say them both in a strong nordie accent.

I think it's pretty funny. Anything that pisses off gaelgeoirs is funny in my book.

If he is not willing to engage and work with his fellow elected members of Stormfront up the North he should resign.People have to respect his Orange marches so he can let people speak the Irish language after all they are Irish and are only saying hello!!.Live and let live.Dinosaurs like him will someday be a distant memory if the majority up there get their way.

Respect them by trying to get them banned?
This kind of stuff is all they have left, let them have it to wallow in.

In this context he was out of line. Still a lot of divided communities up North today and comments like this don't help.

I never saw what they get up to.But I believed they were just saying hello every body and that was it.If they talk in Irish a lot maybe they should not be doing that as it is unfair to people who cant use the lingo.

I assume the red poppy would be upsetting to Shinners too as people were shot dead during bloody Sunday but that is another story. You see one side wearing the Poppy and then go over to the other side of the room and no one wears them.Respect is just not there yet for people who are different up the North yet.Maybe someday fingers crossed.

I'm unfortunately going to go with they whole "we may not like it,but he has a right to say it" spiel.

Met him in person, and he is a truely unlikable man, with a real disdain for Irish people, heck,I've met ex-UDA men who were a hellava lot more willing to reach across the divide that him.

Oh yeah....... Homestead,homestead- egg shocked kunt-ee (ag teacht chun ti)

Would have been hilarious if she were able to give a full answer to his question as gaeilge and see how he reacted

The sniggering wee boys at the back of the class were as bad but would any of them have had the balls to curry anyones yoghurt?
