I have Muslim friends, when i visit them i call ahead to let them.know i am on the way. His wife then has time to get her head cover on. I do this out of respect for her not him. The same i wouldn't call around to the house and expect to be bought in for a cup.of tea when he isn't there as this would be disrespectful to both of them.

We have spoken many times and even though her husband has been in the house i have been left alone in a room with her for up to half an hour chatting while our children played together. I have met her on the street and talked with her and even walked in the same direction chatting as i would with Mrs Murphy from down the street.

I appreciate the answer but that sounds very strange to me.

France has the ba*** to make laws and uphold them.
Ireland and its near neighbours could learn a thing or two

France seems to be gearing up to allow itself refuse entry to anyone they see as a threat to France, whether that is simply public order related or terror related. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/france/11174598/France-proposes-to-bar-undesirable-EU-migrants-on-terror-grounds.html

    Why?

Because you essentially have to make an appointment to see her.

it comes across like you're walking on eggshells when it comes to social interaction with them

Some people make you take your shoes off before you enter their home.. that's a lot weirder than calling friends before you visit them.

What's your take? It's hard to blame them.

From Le Pen to UKIP, right-wing politics are making significant gains in Western Europe and proposals such as above will be much more common.

I wonder how well a proper right wing party would do in Ireland.

Is it only the muslims that aren't allowed to wear their silly hats in France or are the jews also expected to do likewise?

It's the covering of the face that is the issue.

Seems like quite a sensible thing to do to be honest.
Then again it also seems like something that could leave itself very wide open to abuse

I'm not going to see her i'm going to see him. She doesn't wear her veil 24/7 so wouldn't have it on in the house. As i stated already i call out of respect not necessity.

I think they are leading the way now is turning the great big politically correct ship. They are basically saying from now on it will be french people and France first. They are going to do what suits themselves and who could blame them. I hope the rest of Europe follows suit. We should be able to choose who we want and don't want. Who would be good for our countries and who would not.

Its seems like a pretty radical thing to do in Europe in current times. I couldn't imagine some of the more politically correct countries like the UK attempting it.

I can see most countries implementing it eventually.

Theoretically at least. However, some people are either misunderstanding the law or wilfully misinterpreting it to hassle women who are just wearing a head scarf. (Nadine Morano seems to be making it her personal mission).

Exactly. It could be used on anyone. Might be used to combat extremists or whatever the excuse is but that group can change in a whim once its standard procedure.

Maybe you should throw on a niqab in solidarity, but remember, try not to speak in anyway that could be construed as soft or attractive, as this is not allowed.

Clearly all of you never spoke to a Muslim before, you have trapped yourself inside this Bubble and are afraid that talking to a Muslim will take you out of the comfort of your bubble.

It doesn't really bother me what a person chooses to wear, and I agree that a lot, perhaps the majority, of Muslim women choose to wear this particular garment, of their own free will.

However, a lot of Muslim women do not wear it of their own free will, they are pressured by a male dominated culture to do so. To not comply with this has led to countless cases of horrendous physical abuses, even deaths.

And for what? So a group of insecure men can feel safe in the knowledge that nobody can eye up their property or be led astray by the sight of a bit of skin.

Everyone here knows the point of that outfit and to deny that you do a disservice to the people who have risked, and continue to risk, their lives fighting oppression, of women in particular, in SOME sections of the Muslim world.
