Are there too many sub plots going on - I feel he could do with getting rid of one next week.

As other have said - this is in can - so the more I think about it - a story inside is a real part of this life that has not been covered.

Anyway - a sub plot has to be knocked - Tommy / Siobhan ?

    Fantastic episode.

Only minor complaint would be the big deal that was made of the cop catching Fran in possession with a gun. Seemed like the whole station was out celebrating it. Bit OTT no?

Did you see the number of posed pictures of law enforcement officers, (navy, customs & Gardai) with bales of drugs captured off the coast recently?

I'd say that's exactly what happens when a successful operation comes off. It's the same in any sphere, people celebrate when they pull off a winning performance.

I thought tonight's episode was spellbinding. Great acting, tight script, as good as anything that I've seen on a TV drama.

    Kudos to all involved!

Read somewhere that Noelie Hughes is in S5, and I assume he was locked up for the failed hit on Fran last season, so it makes sense he will encounter Fran in jail.

A prison story strand would work very well.

I don't really see how seizures of bales of drugs off the coast is relevant to what I was asking. I didn't think catching Fran with a gun was a "big win".

Another poster cleared it up though already that possession of a fire arm is actually a big deal and would realistically put Fran away for a long time so I can see why the celebrations were going on.

Fran aught to get himself a decent lawyer. Cop opening up twice on dubious enough grounds (add in unoffical overtime my arse), any justice he should be out in a week. Better call Saul.

The gun will probably disappear from evidence!

The bales of drugs was an analogy of how successful op's are celebrated.

Great episode. So, we are into Nidge v Fran territory.

I'd say Fran and Noelie will meet up in the prison. Perhaps, Nidge knows of him and uses him?

How long will Fran be inside I wonder? How will his relationship with Nidge develop? At present, he has many ways of hurting Nidge: he could cooperate with the gardai and help bring down Nidge (especially telling them about Linda). He can also continue to use the travellers to try and kill Nidge. But I feel that at the very end, Nidge and Fran will have to come together to face some common enemy hence saving both. Or else Fran stays in prison and/or gets garda protection?

I think that Love/Hate without Nidge and Fran would not be the same. I know that at the start, neither was meant to be the main character. It was designed to be about Darren and John Boy mainly. But Nidge and Fran (who was not even in S1) came out as the main characters people liked and from series 3 onwards, it was written to focus on them. So, that's why I think these will be in it as long as the series runs.

Paulie is a good character and I wonder will he feature in just this or will he be in subsequent series as well. I can see him move very quickly from being a friend of sorts to a major nuisance to an outright enemy of Nidge's over the next 4 episodes. A bit like Dano in S3.

Paddy Pipebomb has lasted a lot longer than I thought. I had him written off as early as S4 episode 5 and then saw him survive not only that but episode 6 as well and 2 episodes of S5! He could be a huge threat to Nidge throughout the entire series and this is the most worrying for Nidge as he is very well organised and could team up with other enemies of Nidge like Paulie down the line and obviously Fran already!

Patrick, Franno and I think Brian F. O'Byrne as Mick Moynihan (The Gaffer) are mostly the main reasons Im watching this year.

Brian's acting is very under-stated but very, very good.

Are you serious - that lad had to pull his gun , had to fire shots , yes these lads are trained , but they only do that 1 day a year maybe.

He said he fancied a pint.

It just shows that they are in a stressful job - catching one of those ****ers with something tangible alone is a big day , they are like a rugby team them lads - they live close to the edge.

Firing shots, for even a lads at that level - when the other lad had a weapon -

is a day you may go "I fancy a pint".

    What an episode.

Brilliant after a slow start last week.

Fran is surely going to cut a deal and get out on bail and the cops will let him go after Nidge.

I can see Paulie orcastrating a hit on nidge at the end of the season and taking over nidges gang probably after saving him by taking out fran

Then next season siobhan is with him and ratting on him at the same time

Na - this idea that Paulie is the new man is not a runner for me.

Fran - Nidge - then the show is over (imo)

Is that his name? Coz I all I ever hear whenever they call him by his name, is something that sounds like "Gick" or "Kick".:confused::confused:

Now that Fran knows about what happened with Linda, does that give Nidge some breathing space to call a truce with Patrick, I wonder? Since Fran was the reason why nidge wanted Patrick out of the way on the first place.

Fran knows enough to take Nidge and Patrick down so it's in both of their interests to shut him up permanently.

Tommy has not featured at all so far. We only see him lying in the bed for a couple of seconds. Next week, I predict he will die of his injury and Siobhan will feel guilty and suicidal by the looks of things.

I heard a lot of this season will feature prison and court. Obviously, it will involve Fran. But how will Nidge react? Will he attempt a hit on him before he spills his knowledge to the courts? Or will he attempt to undo the wrong and help him get free through the use of Dave? Knowing Nidge, he could choose to go either route. It depends on whether Nidge and Fran's former friendship is strong enough to overcome this.

Fran has come across as a lot of things: edgy, volatile, violent, funny, relaxed and stressed at various points. He also is very genuine and sincere. This is a side to him we have seen in how he helped Nidge and clearly he has deep feelings for Linda. Fran has not had a serious relationship with anyone since (one of two casual girlfriends he had was called Linda as well!) and none in series 4 or 5. Fran is a deep thinker and because he is genuine and sincere, it makes him more dangerous and unhinged because his emotions come to the fore in all he does. Fran was a very loyal friend to Nidge especially with season 3's Git Loughman affair. Now, he feels betrayed 100% by Nidge and this will be very interesting how the two of them will get on for the next 4 episodes.

I reckon this is Frans last series.

Paulie is tiny, with his moon boot runners

True enough, no one has really come close to them throughout all seasons.

    Its a shame
Hughie (played by Brendan Gleeson's son?)
was killed off so early in the show. A really good character and actor.

We seriously meant to believe that Fran and the travellers didn't notice the white van? It was all over the scenes, yet Fran, this criminal, saw nothing. It was so obvious that he'd get nabbed before he went to kill Nidge.

Its amazing to see the arcs, john boy killed by his closest, nidge will probably be killed by someone he trusts, maybe the young hitman he has.

The only person with the connections and the position to off him is paulie
