I saw that Thornbury recently had a VDSL cabinet installed and Convent Court (which somebody already mentioned):

Any other housing states or areas getting Sales People?

no salesperson but got letter from eircom saying that efibre upgrade was available and also checked website and put through an order for efibre the day before we received the letter.

I'd say try their website again and see if you can get an order through.

Delgany Wood is now covered at both entrances with VDSL cabinets. I'm not sure if there are any cabinets in the estate itself - haven't checked.

There aren't . I've checked. It's good to see Thornbury has been provided with one now. Only a few more left but Eircom could easily put down more. Plenty of areas that would need one.

After a year of lies and broken promises, it turns out that Wellfield in Kilcoole is not 'commercially viable' to connect to the efibre service. An estate containing only 32 houses is not worth the effort for another year or two!

Today I have given my 30 day cancellation notice to eircom. I will never return to them as a customer.

Can anyone recommend a decent alternative, not using a landline/eircom cabling? I've been stuck with max 1.5mb down and 150k up, with contention to the point of disconnection. I'm leaning towards Wicklow broadband.

Vodafone guy called to rathdown park today. Offering 70mb in the next 3-6 weeks and 100mb from September. €35 p/m with no phone.
    Is eircom close behind?

You might have to call them to bump you up to the higher profile.

Not sure if this has been posted, but eircom wholesale have a (new?) site specific to the NGA roll-out
    http://fibrerollout.ie/where-and-when/

They made a new page for it. It looks like the Thornbury/Delgany Wood cabinet and Convent Court are going live on the 23rd of this month.

Looks like Greystones is getting 200 - 1000 MB Broadband as part of the Vodafone / ESB Fibre rollout announced today.

    http://www.siliconrepublic.com/comms/item/37476-esb-and-vodafone-reveal/

Greystones is on the list of 50 named towns for early 2015.

If you haven't read it, check out this forum.

Yeah I was with then for a couple of very satisfactory years before moving to efibre. Have no hesitation in recommending Wicklow broadband

So I was sold a pig in a poke. Basically the vodafone salesguy was mistaken/lied and there is still no efibre available in my part of rathdown park. However, this has only emerged today AFTER vodafone cancelled my eircom account and have left me service less. It has been an absolute farce dealing with them. Meanwhile eircom have been great to deal with.
(Any advice welcomed on what I should do next. I'm thinking of a formal complaint against vodafone...)

If you have any emails/written proof that can aid you, send it with an email CC: Comreg with a complaints email to Vodafone. Comreg should be able to sort this **** out. They tried to sell to the auld man last week as well.

The majority of Rathdown Park seems to be stuck on lines direct to the old Exchange behind the old post office. Vodafone will be having a direct fibre feed to homes with ESB but that might be some time before they begin rolling it out.

Got efibre installed last week with vodafone in holywell on the sea road in kilcoole. Average speed on the laptop is ~90mb down and 19mb up. Makes a huge difference from the 2 down I was getting :)

Yes its the newer estate on the right as you drive down the sea road. There is an apartment for sale on the way into the estate but don't think any for renting.

Perhaps with a lot of Greystones still served by copper to cabinet, a local, crowd funded effort like this could be achieved to upgrade parts of the town that are not yet served by fibre?

We would have problems with the local government in digging up the roads and there is a lot of work involved with the installations for the homes.

that's not to say it could not be done (it would be first in Ireland) - but I agree the level of commitment by any organising committee never mind the buy-in/participation from the community would be something else.

If anyone is interested in a community run broadband network, let me know.
I have plans and ideas, and I have experience in doing this sort of thing.

The gist of it is, you don't need council permission to run a cable through your own property. So if everyone will allow you to run a cable through the very front of their gardens (right up against the sidewalk), you can do this quickly, cheaply and legally, with no council involvement required.

Yep, I'm on it. You should just be able to phone up and order.

hi red_bairn , contacted eircom and they said my home not available "yet" to get fibre bb, re direct feed to exchange, what is difference between different houses in redford for instance , some who have eircom fibre bb and mine which doesent. both houses are connected to eircom via copper pair i would think.

All houses are unless you are in Charlesland and have coaxial travelling into your home. UPC use fibre all the way to their cabinets and coaxial from the cabinets to the homes in Charlesland.

In Redfod, its an old build like Rathdown Park. The majority of old Telecom Eireann lines went straight to the Exchange down by the Postal Sorting Office. However, some lucky people have them pass straight through the distribution cabinets. I originally thought these were for Broadband (ADSL) but they are not so. According to a nearby resident, they only need to cut the lines and jump them over to the distribution cabinet...

I've been told exchange-launched DSL is coming in January (the cabinet at Greystones exchange is marked as "planned" on the map).

I assume they don't want to set a precedent as there are hundreds of thousands of direct fed lines and nowhere near enough cabinet capacity to divert them all. Even eircom employees apparently can't get their direct-fed lines moved.

As soon as there is sign of ESB FTTH trialing, I'll see if the paps wants to jump on to that as well.
