I think there is a possibility that the damage was done by intruders after the students had left, but that wouldn't make a slow news day story.

Well anticipated by the previous occupiers, as they didn't ask for their deposit back when they were leaving, combined with an inspection by the landlords.

    That's what normal people do.

Yeah i dont think that nice lady realised that, by her very definition, she doesnt know what terrorism means.

Interesting how some people are focussing on the effect this act will have on the lives of the perpetrators. Another sign of the diminishing role of personal responsibility in the world today. You do this sort of cowardly anti-social thing and you should be called out on it.

It's also another indication of the "having the crack" mentality of younger Irish folk nowadays which seems to involve getting massively drunk and doing stupid sh1t. And it is accepted here due to how imposed the drinking culture is here. Damn i sound old saying this but i am 32 and having been going out socialising since i was 16. It's just starting to get really old.

Yeah I'm a bit confused : the first image shows the woman opening a front door with the side panel window boarded up (presumably broken), then opening forcefully another boarded up door that looks like another front door (so presumably broken too).

If entry ways were broken up, how can she be so certain the students did it ?

I think there is a possibility that the damage was done by intruders after the students had left, but that wouldn't make a slow news day story.

Obviously we don't know for certain who did the damage.

However ..... if the cops get on the case... they should be able to find out easily enough.

If the property was uninhabited for a week after the Irish JI holders left it in pristine condition, and an intruder did gain entry... why trash the place?

Normally an intruder would attempt to keep quiet... not draw attention to themselves whist they are robbing the place?

If the property has neighbors nearby... then they might be able to shed some light on the day of the massive party ... or the night of the extremely noisy intruder!!:pac:

    Remember this line?

"They were nice boys... but they made a lot of racket at night"

    Blues Brothers

Their **** for what they did and I hope the feckers get made pay every cent owed, but its extremely disturbing to see their are people out there that would repost their personal info online ( I know the news report had a name but does anyone REALLY need to go sharing the info) as well as some lads spamming the persons college and his new workplace over this.

I wouldn't mind but their only justification for this carry on is "his name was on the lease so its his responsibility" sure for all we know he could be doing his best to get the lads that did the damage to pay up.

The type that lead these online witch hunts are just as fcukin scummy.

Why would you leave used condoms on the floor too? Even if you don't wreck the house, that's just skank.

Was chatting to two different friends during the week and both told stories of having to clean out a departed housemates room and finding used condoms. In one of the rooms there was at least a hundred just thrown under the bed and the guy who left had lived there for two years and never once brought a girl back with him.

My other friend's housemate was into all kinds of weird sex, he used to tell us about how he loved to be tied up and have a girl smother him with her ass. He had this huge list of fetishes and while I generally gave him a wide berth his housemates weren't so lucky and one of them ended up breaking his nose because he would put on porn whenever they had guests over. He disappeared a few weeks back and the girlfriend of my friend offered to clean out the room, she found used condoms stuffed in drawers, between the mattress and bed frame, in the gap between the wardrobe and wall and down the back of the radiator amongst others. She also found dildos, a huge strap on, whips, bondage gear and a USB with photos of the housemate and others, both male and female engaged in every kind of debauchery. The worst part was that many of the images were taken in the shared living room, kitchen and there was one picture of their housemate being peed on that had been taken in my friends room.

Obviously it's not terrorism (lol) - strange that it's on the news too.

Like non-nationals have never damaged a property before in Ireland? I know plenty of landlords who have had their houses destroyed by non-nationals. One Landlord had a group of eastern Europeans, who had a falling out. So one of them went around the house with a bottle of lighter fluid and burnt the house to the ground. The whole house had to be built from the foundations up.

American media still loves to portray stereotypes of certain nationalities. Im sure if they were Italian, the house damage would have been mafia linked. Tens of thousands of Irish go on J1s with no issues at all. There will always be pricks out their in life.
Who said "non nationals" have never damaged a property in Ireland? Talking about members of one group doing something doesn't mean lack of acknowledgement that members of other groups have done the same.

Is it me or does anyone think the house doesn't look all that bad? A few broken windows and a bit of replastering, a couple of new beds and some carpentry. Right enough there's a few quids worth of carpentry but it looks like most of it can be repaired rather than replaced.

Being honest, in my younger days I may or may not have left places far worse than that.
Well then, "being honest", you were being a dick in your younger days. /shrug

Always has to be some geniuses being contrarian and disingenuous in these cases. Trashing someone else's property is a cnutty thing to do, end of. It doesn't matter if there was no malicious intent, it doesn't matter if it doesn't seem that bad and could have been worse (wtf?), it doesn't matter that it can easily be rectified (even bigger wtf?!) it shouldn't happen in the first place. "Few new beds, 'bit of' replastering" bla bla as if this isn't a big deal. FFS.

I'd love if the above folks property was trashed like this tbh - because according to them, it would be no big deal.
And "jealous"? Jealous of ****ing what?

I don't agree with witch-hunts either, but a lot of it is their own doing.

It's the truth. Been on two J1s now and it's always the same. Don't get the different mentalities but it definitely happens. I knew before even having a quick Facebook search, and sure enough, I was right.

Don't agree with your attitude at all. I am not from Dublin and I don't want to be associated with the people that did this but you already have. They are Irish people who happen to be from some part of the country that isn't Dublin. What you have said is the same as an American presuming that all Irish people are going to wreck an apartment the same as the people did in the link in the op simply because they are from Ireland. That's a pig ignorant attitude.

Lots of houses like that around here. I have no idea how you would even be able to do half of that. They should face charges and be made to pay.

They probably think they're the biz.

    Do we know that ?

If it comes to that, we don't know that the whole think isn't a prank by the TV station or landlord for publicity purposes.

Perhaps we have all been hypnotised into even thinking about it in the first place.

You are right that we don't know what actually happened, but if they asked for their deposit back it would be very strange if that wasn't mentioned in the report.

I have been with Irish abroad , many are simply outrageous. They know they are leaving. Also falling around drunk is not acceptable in some countries and a lot of Irish don't adjust. I've never had a foreign police officer or security guard have to reprimand me.

I do believe the story. Newspapers have reported the owner gave them a break on rent.

They are their mammies darlings of course...must have been a non Irish intruder ...don't witch hunt the poor things...

TheJournal provides a link to the CBS news report which blatantly shows a tenant’s name written on an envelope with his date of birth, yet they then removed a comment with that same name mentioned.

    Easy to identify anyway.

Always Irish MIDDLE CLASS and higher who do this overseas.

Been going on since forever. While lads back in the 80's were illegally working hard on building sites in the Bronx, future FF, FG, Lab, PD politicians on J1s were doing this back then on Cape Cod.

We have heard from the landlady who claims to be a saint who put these kids up as an act of philanthropy.

That she said this makes me immediately question her credibility.

Kneemos, this isn't a Hollywood movie, like Twelve Angry Men.

It's far more serious than that.

A landlord in San Francisco has had bad tenants, and we need to resolve this issue.

    Here and now.

People who lead online witchunts and go out of their way to ruin a persons life are even worse than these c**ts who wrecked the house imo.

You're not trying to be fair, you're just going against the grain for the craic. Pity the people who rented her property weren't so fair.

And since when is "superficial damage" to someone else's property not akin to trashing it?

Who is going out of their way to ruin a person's life? It's a serious question.
