    Either way, it's sound advice.

You'd be surprised how quickly a car "deteriorates" once it's left up idle. Pug is now garaged, was left untouched for about a week, took it for a spin the other day, handbrake stuck, and brakes were scraping for a while, got them back though with some frequent braking.

    yeah, especially brakes.

Had the most horrible experience driving home, was doing about 45mph on the inside lane of the m50 when there was a bang/snapping noise, car lost all power, while I've a monstrous hgv behind me.

Managed to limp into the hard shoulder right beside a slip road, and called breakdown.

Car will not start, is just making a horrible whooshing noise. I suspect the fooking belt snapped, it had 4,000 miles before it was due to be replaced :(

Unfortunately the recovery guy agrees this is most likely the case.

Seriously horrible being broken down like that on the M50

Happened me before but it was only a cheap runabout so I wasn't too worried. As eazy-e said in one of his rap songs "throw it in the gutter and go buy another" :D

    Ah **** Stheno really :(

Sounds like the wooshing is the starter turning over the bottom end.
Don't keep turning it over or you may do more harm to valves!

    Sounds nasty. Hope it's fixable!

Sounds like a terrible experience stheno. You don't actually realise how bad breaking down is until you experience it. I'll never forget the night I broke down on the m8 engine cut out at 120kmh. Got to the side of the road. Only to discover that I didn't have break down assist which I thought I had.

So I had to get a tow truck to drive from kilkenny to almost into cork end of m8 and then back to kilkenny. I was waiting about 4 and 1/2 hours for the tow and it wasn't exactly cheap either. Sh!t weather too pissing rain so bad I couldn't get out of the car and I don't think sitting in it was a great idea but didn't have to many options. The 2 hours drive that turned into 8 hours.

Such a pity if it is the timming belt is broke as you seemed to have the Alfa perfect hopefully there is very little damage done and it doesn't end up being too expensive.

Not if it's the belt no. That's a new engine.

Not necessarily at all, I jumped timing lately and bent four valves, done water pump, timing belt again and got head skimmed.

    All for €240.

Check it out first stheno, it doesn't mean all valves are gone, it might just need a few and a belt and off she goes :)

    Was that in the beemer?

Oh god no, I don't even want to know a price....

No my little astra runabout, waterpump locked up, car overheated and just as I was stopping she jumped timing and bent valves :)

Was a good learning experience, learned there is nothing to Opels and there parts are dead cheap!! €10 a valve kind of cheap!

So the 900 is finally back on the ground :) the brother thought he'd be nice and pump the tyres back up, grand, about 5 minutes after doing the back left one there was an almighty bang, similar to a bomb going off, looked around to see the rear tyre in a few pieces on the ground :pac:
