Later on in the day Marquess fell on his back and fractured his clavicle without anyone touching him. Driving your teammates into the ground is an unacceptable level of agression. I think it's just letting him know that myself. Nothing else.

I agree it's unacceptable, still thought a fine/cool-down day should've been enough if it was a normal situation.

See what happens in the next week or so, if he's back for the game on friday, probably nothing. If longer, there may be something there.

Just the 'conduct detrimental to the team' thing makes me think there's something more to it.

    This makes me happy.

Looking forward to seeing him in the pre-season games. As well as the good reports, I like what I've heard about his versatility. Interested to see how much they use him for semi-linebacker duties from the nickel corner position...run-stopping, blitzing etc. If he does well in that respect, it'll take the pressure off the linebackers, can play 2 LBs more.

Sorry for going a bit off topic but are NFL games this year on C4 Sky like last year and setanta

    Game day :)

(though I'll probably watch it tomorrow)

Few things I’ll be looking out for…

    - D-line…probably want to see them stop the run first. Not gonna be a major pass-rush with both teams playing vanilla schemes.

    - Linebackers…how McClellin & Bostic get on.

    - DBs…Fuller, how he performs and how they use him. Don’t know much about the safeties. I don’t think anyone has secured a starting spot here.

    - Offense…not much new to see with the starters…o-line protection & I think the run-blocking could be improved on from last year.

    - Backup QB competition...they said it was going to be decided in the pre-season games, so will be interesting to watch.

    - Backup RB…the rookie Ka’deem Carey.

    - Special teams...Mega-punt!

Every rep McClellin gets is a wasted rep for another player (Bostic or Greene ) to develop. He is unbelievably awful. They are wasting their time imho

Someone explain to me again how we went a whole FA and draft without taking a linebacker. Other big negative is O-line depth. Joe Long was particularly atrocious.

If Eric Weems makes the roster he'll be the worst player in the league.

First team O and D-line looked very sharp though. Exciting stuff.

Hard to read too much into the limited snaps, but main takeaway was I thought the d-line looked ****ing great. Even without Jared Allen, think it was Houston, Ratliff, Paea & Willie Young. Caused pressure & lots of penalties on the Eagles o-line. They had a great stat...Foles threw 2 interceptions all of last season, and threw 2 ints in the first quarter of that game, and a big part was the d-line pressure.

LBs and safeties I didn't get a strong impression of, weren't tested much when the starting d-line was on. Things got a bit messy when the 2nd team defense was out alright, but I wasn't sure about the lineups (hard to track against the Eagles, the way their offense moves the defense around so much).

Offense had a shaky first series, but got into its groove then, even with 4 starters out. Good to see the backup TEs doing well.

Ka'deem Carey looked quick, but the backup o-line was quite poor, he so didn't get the proper blocking to break off some real runs.

Thought Jordan Palmer did fine. Don't think the INT was fully on him, pass-protection broke down, and he got hit as he was throwing it (maybe he could've read it better, I dunno).

Didn't see Clausen, but by all accounts he was better than Palmer. Pretty happy though the backup QB situation will be ok now though. I think Trestman will make a lot of guys look good. There won't be another Caleb Hanie situation.

Generally happy with what I saw, couple of depth positions (QB, TE, RB) looked good. Will try and get a better look at the LBs & secondary the next day.

Really like the Santonio Holmes signing with Marquess out for some time. If he causes ANY problems he will be out the door instantly so there is no reason for concern.

Disappointed to see Zach Miller go to IR. He was doing well. Lack of depth behind unicorn is a concern.

RT @ChicagoBears: LM: #Bears have signed WR Santonio Holmes to 1-year deal and terminated contract of WR/RS Eric Weems.

Wow, signed already & Weems gone.

Should be fairly low risk alright, strong characters in the locker room to keep him in check, and will be easy to ditch if he does become a problem. Would imagine if he has any brains at this stage of his career, he'll keep his head down and work hard.

will cost you points if he does, gave up the quickest score in NFL history last year in the 1st game of the season against the Steelers

    About sums it up:

    @dabearsblog:
'There's stuff to watch tonite - Conte, backup QB, Santonio - but most important thing to watch is Bears players healthily walking off field.'

Good test for the run game on both sides of the ball. Want to run it well against Seattle, so you don't get put into obvious passing downs. And also defend the run, so you force them into their weaker passing game.

Don't care about the result, but the Bears play the 49ers in week 2, who are a similar profile team.

    3am. Ugh. :(

    - kick returner found and all round ST improvement
    - pass rush
    - run game
    - no injuries of note

Hopefully we aren't trounced either, would dampen the mood greatly.

Back tomorrow after checking it on gamepass. Fingers crossed.

    Oh dear 34-6 loss

    - Is it too late to fire Tucker? D-line looks great now (love Houston), but any time they get the ball out quick there are holes in coverage, particularly over the middle. Not on Bostic/McLellin either because I don't think they were in that much, seemed to be in nickel a lot.

5 drives for the Seahawks in the first half, 4 touchdowns and a field goal. They didn't punt until the 4th quarter. So basically zero stops all game.

    - Is it too late to fire Joe DeCamillis? Bad night for special teams again.

    - Pat O'Donnell looked good though, good hang time. He's pretty athletic, chased a guy down and made a tap tackle to save a return TD.

    - Backup QB battle...though Clausen separated himself last night, will be surprised if he's not the backup QB now.

    - Santonio Holmes...didn't see a whole of him, but commentators said he still showed good speed on a deep route (Palmer checked down).

    - Josh Morgan played well, think he'll be 3rd WR to start the season.

    - Backup RB...seems close enough, I like Carey though, good explosiveness.

    Deary, deary me.

That's gotta be the worst linebacker corps in the league. It's hard work watching them.

Front 4, bit better, back 7 pure garbage. Another season of not quite putting it altogether and missing the playoffs looms

    Watch the titans..
I watched the game last night, there were some good offensive plays but the hawks just dominated for the entire game

Ironic that another Shea abomination runs concurrent to a total domination from Chandler Jones.

Funny, despite going pointless, I'm more confident with the offence. Carey looks decent, as does Morgan. A lot of the pass pro was just exceptional before a collapse on 2 plays late on.

Ah yeah it was a total mismatch. They were on another stratosphere.

Wilson and Collins among the first cuts

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,335 ✭✭✭padraig_f

Bears cut Jordan Palmer, takes it with great class:

@JwPalms: "Coach Trest didn't want players to make predictions about this year. As a former bear I can say that I believe this is a SB team w an MVP QB"

@JwPalms: "I'll be wearing #bears gear and supporting the bears for the rest of my life. Regardless of what happens. This is the best org in the NFL."

Didn't play badly, but I think Clausen is a great backup to have. From what I saw in the pre-season, probably one of the best in the league.

    Love those Palmer quotes.

Huh, Craig Steltz is cut, supposedly injury troubles kept him from impressing enough to separate. Another Angelo pick gone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 805 ✭✭✭SameOleJay

    I like Fales.

    Getting excited.

Looks like a full deck outside Wilson. The Bills D-Line is the big concern… it’s absolutely stacked. Mario Williams on a rusty Mills is a frightening prospect. Trest says we’re going safety by committee (which would be hilarious if this weren’t my team).

Anyway with a mediocre secondary and no Alonso in coverage we should do enough damage to get by. Coverage in the back 7, special teams and run D against a very strong backfield are the big concerns.
