It's coming but shocking slow, it il be 6 or 7 weeks old before I get a grazing off it, needs more heat, I've stopped going down to look at it and it never seemed to be gaining much

Il put a pic up next day I'm down at it

    How long is it down?
Have you spread any fert on it?

4 weeks this Thursday, got 2 bags 10 10 20 and 1 bag gran lime, got 2 tonne ground lime last year so I thought 1 bag enough, wet patchs are very good, dry patches barely up and nettles making a come back!

    She needs N.
Bag/half if pasture sward to acre and you will be grazing in two weeks.
Was on a farm last week and ass soon as roots were strong farmer let calves in to nip it
Up 4-5 inches week later. Much better growth on it

I'd definitely go with more N.
We reseeded for yrs and never put out N when it was up and you can't compare them when you put the N out

Think of it like a fast growing child - it needs feed and will mop up whatever N you put out. The 10-10-20 was only to help the root system to develop.

As you can see it's pretty mixed. Pasture sward will go out on it tomorrow hopefully

    Hit the nettles with MCPA.

    Do not.
You will set that reseed back weeks. I used mcoa on well established grass and it took 10 days to recover.
That reseed will be flying next week after the N
Ask where you bought your sees what spray to use. They will have the best one to use in stock

Mcpa is too severe in my view for a reseed way to severe.
If you do decide to use it I'd use it at a very light rate

Pudsey might have meant spot spray them, its what id do, they are very strong already

Nah give them a spray of something. They will come back again and you'll get rid of them fully second time round

They are in clumps. Spot spray now with a knapsack with MCPA. If there are young nettles or weed coming within the sward I spay with an undersown spray now that is clover safe if clover in sward. If not I would use MCPA in 10 dayss- 2 weeks time.

    hi all
going to overseed a small 4 acre field this week after silage.
Intend to chain harrow twice then sow seed along with bag of 10 10 20 and maybe a bag of lime per acre.
no spraying or rolling after, wonder how well it will take or will it be a disaster...

Expect it will do okay. Cheap too.

A roll wouldn't hurt... And if you've light stock graze it a couple of times because the fertilizer will drive on the old grass as well so keeping award open will let the new stuff get a bit of light ...

I'm no expert , but a couple of light grazings would probably be better, and keep the sward open to allow nee seedling a bit of light...
Think the roller is to make sure the seed makes good contact with soil.. as opposed to flattening out the ground , don't know if a good heavy downpour will do the same... :-)

Well improved, what should I do with bare batches? it still seems to be coming in it, lambs went into on 6 weeks

This stuff should be rocket fuel for lambs but will probably run through them

Yes it still seems to be coming in it, before you graze next time any really bare patches spread a bit of seed by hand and a bit of bag lime to neutalise dung and it will come over the winter.

If you can get soya hulls I feed the 2-300 grams/head it will slow down grass in the rumen and tighten them up. Make sure they are dosed
