First off- this is extremely difficult!

Here are some points spotted to date but there is no way that any semblance of a pattern has been identified. I've played with # of vowels and consonants, Scrabble values of letters, binary and ASCII code of characters- all to no avail.

    1. Capitalised words score differently from non-capitalised words
    2. Spacing of characters impacts on the scores
    3. Sequences of letters impacts on the scores
    4. There is no apparent score for non alpha-numeric characters.
    5. Numeric values don't tend to get high scores

I think participants are going to need a little prod in the right direction because the scores are so random (viz Xerox, Xorex, Xreox and Xeorx scoring 248,7,0,0 respectively) that i suspect the thread will die pretty quickly if we have to keep thrashing about aimlessly.

The goal is that you guys make your own hints through your posts. I'll try to keep it challenging but (at least in the early rounds) never unfair. And I think there's plenty of hints in these scores here.

Didn't mean to imply your challenge was unfair Xhu...
LOL, your thought of "plenty of hints" may appear as give-away clues to one who knows the calculable factor, but no perceptible pattern has appeared thus far, even with an expert mind working on decrypting the code (not referring to self).

I was simply wondering, if after a few days, you might narrow down the algorithymic scope just a bit... Such broad parameters impedes deductive reasoning.... Your point allocation could be based on a limitless number of possibilities: mathematical (euclidean algorithm?), probability, compound statistics, scientific (the periodic table of elements perhaps), linguistical, alphabetical (or a combination of keystrokes?), numerical, cultural (you could be issuing a value to the keys of a chinese keyboard), technological (binary codes?), mechanical contrivances, board games (scrabble's been mentioned), numerology, even pure randomness, etc... or any combination of those factors can make effective calculability impossible with only scores to go by.

Tis like finding a needle in a haystack without a wee bit of direction. Have mercy on us mortals, after a time Xhu - a challenge is one thing, but an Everest is quite another

Answer me this Xhu..... which score would you consider the most revealing so far, hint-wise?

(I took the spoiler alert off this part, hope that's ok)

I fully concur with ^ him.
(you said it much more concisely than I, thank you namenot)

I understand and the game is indeed challenging but all I can say is to trust me. I've done this before and all rounds were solved without hints within a week (albeit with more players). The last time this round was solved by 7 players after 23 posts. I know it might be frustrating to not see it, but this particular round has an answer that will hit someone like a freight train. My only advice would be to think outside the box a little: this is a little different from the other rounds and in a way, it's simpler than the first two. Good luck!

Then my vote is that you are assigning points in sheer random order in this latest round.

Ok, but don't be surprised to find Namenots fair warning: " ...that i suspect the thread will die pretty quickly if we have to keep thrashing about aimlessly" is a high probability. We are already down to 2 players... and this player is quickly losing interest.

Maybe you just need some sleep. ;P

As for the two players, I guess there never was much interest. I take the blame for that; the OP wasn't great but it was based on the idea that I really wanted to say as little as possible in this thread and let people self-organise and figure it out. If the game doesn't work out, I'm okay with that. But if I start giving out hints now or respond too much to posts, I feel it will ruin the premise of the game. Hence I'm really going silent now. Let's see if the mystery of Round 3 will be solved before the deadline.

I am going to ignore that slight and take your example of going quiet too. Glad to hear you're ok if the game doesn't work, I've come to the same conclusion. Here's to hoping others don't self-organise themselves out of the game. Pity too, this thread could've been fun ....with realistic boundaries and deducible parameters.

I'm sorry. I didn't mean it as a slight. The wink was because I'm awake too. Likewise I hope you choose to keep playing.

Predicted score is possibly 121,81 or 853 for first "Here is a post" depending on methodology being used. Subsequent ones either 1 and 2 or 854 and 856.

I need to hear the rule.

The score is based on the time of the person's post. You reset the clock each day and whatever time the person first posts, that is the score e.g. if I post at 08:15, the score is 815.
Any subsequent post by the same person that day is based on an increment from the preceding post so if I post twice at 09:00 the first one is scored 45 and the second is scored 0. If multiple people are posting, then it's incremental from the previous post

    It's far simpler than that.

OK- literally the incremental difference in minutes between the previous post and the current post. Your posts are not counted, only the posts of players. This post would earn 16.

    CORRECT!

    Rule:
Number of minutes since last post (not including mine)

    Leader board:

    Pos. | Player | Score | For Round #
    1 | namenotavailabl | 2 | 2,3

    Round 4 ...
