Think they said he was 282 yards out Slice, I'm not sure even McIlroy would get there with one of his high ones.
Best miss hit ever if it was :)

Is the general consensus it was a mis**** though? Even still he had to make the putt.

McGinley didn't think it was in commentary. You're the first I've heard hinting that it may have been :)

McGinley isn't gonna say diddly squat, and fair play.Just not convinced. Either way it was the turning point of the whole day. Have thinned shots myself to wax a par, never eagle though

Thought it was a miss-hit too, very low trajectory. One of the commentators mentioned that it came off the heel of the club. And his reaction definitely did look a bit deflated at first. General consensus on twitter seemed to be that it was a bit of a miss-hit. And a great miss-hit it was!

It was a mis hit. Admitted after in press conference.

Rory didn't look happy just after he hit the ball and I also felt it was a miss-hit.
    Best one ever though.

Miss hit it was so :)
Watching the replay on Sky now, front 9, still can't see Rory winning

Have it recorded myself even though saw it live too. After that 3 putt par 3 I thought "here we go". But he must've somewhere consciously decided 2 things.

I'm gonna have to win this, ain't gonna be handed to me.

I'm gonna have to watch Phil and Fowler all the way through, this is to my advantage.

But the 5 minute rule is about lookng for a lost ball, once it's found then its not lost anymore and the clock stopped. Player then has reasonable time to get to the ball and a certain time (30secs I think) to play it. Here getting to the ball would include getting his equipment to the ball.

Someone said he actually took a big risk to speed up the shot by having the caddy throw the club to him as if he'd dropped it it would have been grounding club in a hazard and a penaly but I think drooping a club accidentally is ok, golf rules are actually very fair.

Ball isn't found until it's identified though...

It was a mis-hit and a pull. If you look at how he sets up, he's going for a big high draw (like most of his shots), and it starts out well left of where he's aiming. It was definitely a thin off the heel, I've hit similar shots loads of times (admittedly not half as long or with quite as good an outcome). I honestly believe that, had that shot just gone straight left, he wouldn't have won. Even if he upped and downed for birdie. It was a huge momentum shift. Fair play to him, he went out there and won it, coming from behind on the back 9. Made all more impressive by the long waits he had between shots. After this win, I think Rory has what it takes to go on and win 15+ majors, first time I've had that view.

Yeah, he said it was 15 yards left and 30 foot lower than he wanted but got lucky. Apparently the CBS commentators were saying on its first bounce: "He's hit that a bit short, gonna need a good chip to... it's still going... it's still going... Oh my..." :D

Grip down a little and play a cut to get rid of those few extra yards. Shouldn't go further than 290 yards then, provided it's not too dry. ;)

As the saying goes......thin to win ;)

Hitting a 3 wood 282 yards is amazing......bear in mind, that was up hill with no run on the fairways.

Perhaps the better power display was on the 16th, 500 yard par 4.......driver to 160 yards and pitching wedge from there.

Also remember that the "clock" is only applied when you are delaying play......when Day started searching for his ball, the group ahead were still putting, so play was not being held up.

This may be the case when being put 'on the clock' for slow play, but you are always only allowed five minutes to find your ball no matter how fast you're playing.

PGA Championship conspiracy.....was the finish in darkness part of a bigger plan to derail the US challenge and hand the tournament to McIlroy.

Footage has been aquired showing McIlroy practicing playing in the dark in the months before the tournament.

    :D
