True true, I guess you could say the same to bmw designers.......:pac:

    I'll see myself out :P

Ah now BMW own mini and rolls royce, none of them look the same.
I have no problem with the families looking the same (fiesta, focus, mondeo)
but across marques I think it tarnishes the brand a bit.
Aston Martin's that is, not Ford :)

As far as I know they are with KIA now for the foreseeable future, other than the Transit Connects I think.

    That's ridiculous!

Not so ridiculous if you buy the Mondeo;)

It was reported before, and I am surprised they went ahead with this plan.

As a non-owner of Aston Martin I don't really care, but if I owned a well known and exclusive brand, I would make sure that the lower brand don't look alike.

There is a chance AM is going to change their design completely so they didn't care at all. That is an only explanation I can think of.

Mine cost about 40 euro shipped, but then again there was more than just the wheels

Were yours new or used? It's hard buying second hand ones when you can't see properly what kind of condition they're in. Did I read that there is some VRT type charge on them

They were used, but in really good condition, I asked them for a few pictures :) I didn't get any vrt charge?

There shouldn't be vrt on wheels....it's for vehicles only. You'll pay vat on the purchase in the uk if it's from a company but there shouldn't be any other charges

You don't pay vat if ordered from the EU.

You'll pay vat on the purchase in the country it was ordered in. If I buy from a company in the uk, I'll pay vat on it, just a bit less than if I buy it from a company here. If I buy it from a company in Jersey, then I'll pay vat.

What I meant is you will not pay any extra on top of what you paid;)

The extra VAT only applies to purchases made outside of the EU.

It is not an extra VAT though - it is the only VAT paid, as they don't charge it in USA or China.

My 407 steering wheel and gear stick got a bit of a cleaning today. I steam cleaned it, and used some Autoglym leather cleaner and care balm.

It made me realise that a new steering wheel and knob (wahey) probably wouldn't do me any harm. Are these items I should look into picking up at a scrap yard from a newer version of a 407? Or are steering wheels pretty universal (ie; can any Peugeot wheel fit in my car? Could I slap in a Ford or Mazda wheel if i were so inclined?).

I'd like to see if I can find a 2010 407 (the last year they existed) in a scrap yard, as the wheel and gear stick on that would have the least wear and tear, but im not sure if it'd actually fit? From what I can see they never once bothered to update the cars look, so I assume the interior never really changed..?

The wheel itself has a horn (ie; press the wheel to beep), but the other controls (radio volume, station etc.) are on a stalk to the side of it, so I think that makes things a little bit easier?

If you can get them, make sure you get the air bag lights and stuff looked at and sorted out, an opel forum i was on when i had the astra, a guy had put a 10 reg astra opc wheel in his 02 one, looked epic, but the sheer effort and wiring and hassle he went to was not worth it

    Just my two cents!

Knob you should pick up in a decent scrappies, what part of the country are you in?
The wheel you may be better off getting refurbished.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,880 ✭✭✭Kaiser D

You probably won't find a 2010 car in a scrap yard tbh.

You could have both refurbished; it'd be less hassle than finding the parts.

Come to think of it, I need a new knob too...

    for the car :pac:

I've had some big surprised in scrap yards. You never know what you'll find or from what year. :D
Kilcock is great for a browse. :)
