Ah yes! Wasted seed or something. :)

But so is contraception and that was allowed! :p

The more I think of it, the weirder it seems to let anyone (religion, internet forum people :pac:) have a say in sexual matters.

each to their own..best of luck finding the "one", but maybe a bit of realism to temper your romanticism mightnt go astray..perhaps ask this thread to be moved to the personal issues or religion and spirituality forums though..AH mightnt be the most appropriate place for a discussion of this personal nature..

It is no skin off my nose what you or others do sexually. You are free to do what you want.
Not everyone wants sex before marriage.
    Others do, that is life.

    What does the media promote:
Sex before marriage or sex after marriage.
If you think my point is poisonous it is easy for you to make assumptions.
It is not me who has a problem with anyone here.

You've stated that people having sex before marriage are doing so because it's the "norm" or because the media promotes it, it's untrue in most cases and an insulting misrepresentation. You've reared your angry sex-obsessed head in the Gay Marriage threads enough for me to be not the least surprised at your attitude here.

This thread wasn't supposed to be about Religion. I was just wondering whether many girls would wait for a guy that wanted to wait until marriage. The fact that I am Catholic shouldn't have much to do with it.

I was never taught masturbation was a sin, wasn't mentioned in school or by my parents or anywhere ...didn't even know it existed; thought I was a genius when I figured that one out!

If there are church groups or youth groups run by the church that you could get involved in, you might meet more like-minded people that way. I'd say you're unusual, but certainly not unique. I'm sure the right girl will think you're worth the wait.

Thanks. My Church has VERY LITTLE people my age in it which makes it difficult for me to meet like minded people/.

I have actually never had a girlfriend or even kissed a girl (Not down to my Religion but due to my shyness haha) There I said it :) To add to thinks I actually suffer from Religious OCD (no joke) which makes decisions quite hard to make. I know the Catholic Church has it's opinion on sex before marriage, masturbation and contraception etc but I try to live my life to love and help everyone and I know people within the Catholic faith can make certain choices as regards sexual issues and I haven't decided what I will do as regards all of them but the sex before marriage rule is one thing that I think I agree with not only on a Religious level but also personal level. The people who do have sex before marriage are not bad people (far from it) but it is their personal choice.

I hope this clears up a bit :)

Masturbation is very unhealthy anyways, whatever the church might say.

No, Silverman was told this is not the 1950s.
I simply said people conformed then and some expect him to conform to modern day norms. That is all.
Did the Riordans have sex before marriage in most episodes?
Modern soaps do, it was easy upset you and you should deal with this topic and not bring arguments you might have from elsewhere which suggests this is you wanting to make this personal.
    Stick to the topic please.

    There was a pre-Glenroe?

Were all the characters called either Paddy or Biddy? :)

Lol, they could have been tbh for all I know of it :P
I think so, going from my parents talking about it, I only remember Glenroe tbh - bedtime bath, PJs and Glenroe on a sunday :D

It is relevant as part of the wider discussion on the media and social norms in regards to sex before marriage, back in the 1960s early 1970s compared to now as portrayed in soap operas.

Yes but inbetween there was Bracken.

There was enough work in glenroe when dick Moran had an affair not to mention Miley and fidelma in the hay...

I thought Bracken was the one before Glenroe and The Riordans was the one before Bracken ...and they all exist in the same fictional universe too, like Kevin Smith movies, I think?

This talk about soap operas is a bit weird though...

When I read stuff like this it makes me glad I spent much of my later childhood in the UK. :)

20th century Ireland sounds feckin awful just going by glenroe talk

Does anyone honestly believe that soap operas have anything to do with societal norms?!

If I thought my life was going to be anything like Eastenders, I'd end it all now.

Do you think an Irish soap had gay characters 40 years ago?
Soaps have gone far more liberal as society has.
The story lines may be wacky but social themes have changed over time including sex before marriage.

I wouldn't go that far, but I'd certainly be shítting myself at Christmas waiting for the fire/scandalous affair/patricide or whatever.

I'm waiting for someone to bring up an example of a soap doing a storyline with a teen boy having a serious masturbation problem to back up this whole "soaps accurately reflect modern society" type argument that seems to be going on. Really looking forward to youtubing it, actually, gonna be the best crappy soap stuff since that dog had a dream on neighbours!

The more and more I read this thread, the more and more I'm convinced some posters are on a wind up. That's got to be it, it's the only logical explanation.

Also, taking a lesson from Alan Beresford B'Stard, I think there may be money to be made off people who don't like sex... :D
