10 Cattle heading to factory in 3-4 weeks time .

Will they be fit in 3-4 weeks? Maybe it's the pic but they don't look to be near fit. What kind of weights are you hoping for?

It's one of the umbellifers, there's a few that look similar, but it looks like cow parsley to me.

Looking at that now on the PC and the leaves look more like hogweed.

Following on from the how much of your farm is mowable thread, i hope to revise my answer shortly!

Draining 8 acres which has got worse with rushes over the years. We reclaimed it in 91 but there were only a few drains pulled in it, so thankfully we've had a dry spell to get at it properly.

You'll see from the pics the extreme variations in soil type, from a blue marl clay just under the topsoil at the top of the field to a limestone layer just inches below the surface towards the middle of the field.

Absolutely nothing can drain through the blue clay and when we dug a test hold, eight feet down we came across about three feet of water just seeping into the hole. ( and thats in a dry spell).

Drains being pulled 4ft down, with a 8" tiling bucket, 1 ft stones under a 4" pipe and 3 ft above right to the surface.

Concrete pipes placed at the end of all main drains running into the sheugh to prevent silting.

In all will need about 3500m pipe and using 4" stone. Rushes were topped about 4 weeks ago so need to get onto them now with the sprayer and hopefully soon turn it around. (A stone cart is a great job compared to a long tailed shovel and link box)

Its a balancing act to be fair ..... they are in 4 acres of after grass at moment and they have another 12 to clip across the road which will see them through to end of august .. that would be the best of my grass for them to finish them from grass gone ...or does a lad start feeding nuts and for a few weeks and hope it pays at other end .....personally I probably would be giving them a rew nuts now for the next couple of weeks but I don't have final say ;-).. the blacks I would hope would be 650 kg going and the 2 charolais in picture be 750 kg .. the pic not really doing them justice but to be fair they wont be overfat going .....

Hard to know about giving them nuts for the final few weeks, some lads would say it wouldn't pay, others would tell ya they'l not killout the same without the nuts, as you say, it's a balancing act

yep. thankfully. I didnt even see it fall off. I turned to switch on the wipers and next thing I know I've stopped and I was pointing at a different angle
