Can't understand how this dispute is dragging on so long. Its getting increasingly nasty too
No group of workers is going to sign a form saying they'll accept a 35% pay cut or they can't work
However, assuming it goes to the LRC, there'll probably still be a significant wage cut and increased productivity recommended
How come Kieran Mulvey can intervene to try broker a deal for Fart Brooks but is totally silent when this is going on

    Not nice for anyone involved.

Hope it gets sorted and everyone can return to work and earn a decent wage.

No greyhound racing, What am I going to do on my lunch break?

Usually a roll, and bookies and a few bets on T4 at Romford or Crayford in the early bags

In fairness, you'd need to be a proper sociopath not to support the workers on this one.

I'm not completely familiar with the details, but 35% does seem to be a fairly extreme sort of pay cut to be taking. Obviously if the company is being genuine with their financial troubles, it may be somewhat necessary. Anyone got any information on wage comparisons between Greyhound and their competitors?

Heard your man on Newstalk the other morning, and tbh he didn't come across that well. (someone from greyhound)

Something along the lines of their business model not being viable anymore due to their over the odds wages and salaries.

Workers won't accept 35,%cuts even though this would still have them on much higher wages than other people in the same industry.

Something to do with unofficial strikes such as 12 bin lorries returned to base for toilet breaks and sick days on mass.

Competitors have been drafted in to sub contract what rubbish hasn't been collected, but they cannot go on like this long term.

I was flat out that particular morning with my phone ringing off the hook, so I might just have gotten some (possibly all of it) wrong though. :o

Still, as someone already said, not a nice predicament for either party.

SIPTU advised the workers to apply for social welfare while the dispute drags on.

One applicant was told no and then they rejected everyone. They are not considered job seeking and rules are rules. DSP won't pay out to workers on strike.

Why can't SIPTU help with more strike pay though instead of telling their members to get money somewhat else

    SIPTU have plenty of money!

It's SIPTUs money :) You are confusing them with someone who gives a damn about workers.

It does seem like a huge drop in wages, and I don't have all the info, but it sounds really bad to take in other staff and just leave all the proper staff outside the gate. My local area are asking people to boycott greyhound and use someone else for the time being. They are not recommending any company, and they are not greyhound workers
They are just normal working class people who see this as bad news, as other companies can just start doing this too. I'm sure some of the workers have families and I doubt they are refusing to take any drop in wage, we all losing wages lately, but that's a huge amount. I wonder how the books look for greyhound, and how much the owners take every year.
I'm voting with my feet and leaving greyhound and going elsewhere. If they treat the staff with some decency and sort this mess out, then I will go back to them. People should make a stand. The government and unions are doing nothing. It's our turn.
To the greyhound staff on strike, I hope this gets sorted soon, and I hope you realise there are people behind you.

I feel sorry for the workers but Greyhound really made a balls of the transition. it's no wonder people went elsewhere. Having to hunt for your own bin is a novelty that wears off quickly.

Greyhound got greedy and used nasty tactics to try and extract more from it's customers.

When they took over the councils rubbish collection service they should have tried to butter up its customers and improve business efficiency gradually.

Instead they stuck tags on bins telling people they were in arrears and waited too long to improve efficiency by forcing a 35% wage cut on its staff.

I'm with the workers on this one.

35 % is a big cut. Surely greyhound or their accountants saw this issue coming and could have taken more gentle action before now.

Decent article from a couple of years ago from Shane Ross into the corruption ineptitude of giving Greyhound the contract for SDCC waste collection.

Not a fan of greyhound, but i would support the workers a 35% cut in your wages is insane.

    Please publish the poll result

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Will upper management be taking the 35% cut as well, I have seen a lot of companies using the ahem "Recession" to get rid of highly paid people or cut wages. Just to cream higher profits as the prices they charge are still above Celtic tiger days.
